thanks deadly for clearing that up. Also if you want good believable characters, you could put a vendetta or nemesis from his past in (usually a friends spaecial character) his background. and a great looking model is essential

heres an example of how much this topic helped me, really interesting when you think about it. original: saul tarvitz, chapter master of the emperors children. leader of the few remaining loyal members of the traitor legion. during the heresy, he and his men chased horus's retreating battlebarge into the warp during the conclusion of the seige of terra. he is armed with- bolter, plasma pistol, blades of fulgrim (very stupid spinnoff of calgars gauntlets) heresy armor, and bionics. remade: saul tarvitz, leader of the emperors children remnant. lost in a warpstorm during the events right after the conclusionn of seige of terra. chosen secrecy and has not returned to the grace of the imperium. he as well as all his men are being investigated by the inquisition. (though they have found very little) sauls a warrior, and leads his men at the forefront of battle for vengeance and the emperors true goals. (just purge the galaxy of evil) only thing saul is is a leader of his men. his loss will be saddening but life will move on. sauls wargear- bolter, power weapon, artificer armor, iron halo, sauls banner. sauls banner is treated as the legion banner, since it can only be fielded with him and costs 60pts. (note; the banner does not have to be used but may only be given to saul.) this character was heavily redone after i looked at nightshades suggestions. and they really helped...

something i'd like to point out. a special character should be balanced. this seems obvious, but some people really go to town with their special rules. the points should be appropriate for the stats/upgrades. and another thing. special characters die all the same as regular leaders. if you take a special character, and you make him uber-powerful, he will die eventually. and when he does, you've lost the battle, because chances are your strategy revolves around him and he's going to be a lot of points |

I once made a really wild special character for my Dark Elves. Then GW came up wid their own rules for him (damn you!) Kouran, Captain of the Black Guard -Halberd Crimson Death -Heavy Armor .. here come the "wild" specials *"Voice of the captain": all darkelves in 12 inches are allowed to reroll failed to hit tests. *"Do you think something is funny soldier?" Enemy model in base contact wid Kouran will become subject to "stupidity" for the rest of the game. this is just a stereotype taken from all the american army movies when the drill sargeant picks on a new fat kid that giggles

as far as the points go for my special character, he's just a master with his wargear and can have a company banner. so thats about the same as calgar with the banner and less without it...

My god these are really good ideas. I never thought about making legal heros. I like that primarch dreadnought idea lol. I always have been toying with the idea of a 2000 pt hero...... what an interesting battle that would be. Not sure if this would be the right place to ask this, but i have a renegade eldar hero (about to be drastically redone) and i was wondering what would the craftworld eldar relationship be with him. I've read alot of fluff and dont really think any of it gives me a clue. On one hand, they let rangers fight along side, on the other hand they some time outcast people permenantly.... so on and so forth. |

What did he do to bcome a renegade? If he murdered or backstabbed anyone, he's not going to be the favorite long-lost uncle. On the other hand, he may be running from bloody battles from his past. Really depends on how you write the fluff.
