Okay, I'm creating a campaign... And what I need to be answered is how the SM gene seed is stored, housed, and protected? Are their mutliple areas for one Chapter, or is there one spot for Blood Angels, Dark Angles and all the other SM chapters? Are there factories/labs that basically contain the seed?
I'm planning an attack on a Dark Angel's home world from an enemy terrifying and merciless... The Kroot. This would do well nicely, as the independent Kroot Armies search for the better genes in other races and consume them for the passing of those traits. I was planning on having the Kroot find information about the Stubborn Dark Angels Gene Seed, and try to isolate it to consume for the traits of superiority that it may hold.
Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!
The genes seed is held in the deepets darkest parts of a chapter's fortress monestary, way down in the labraroties of the chapter's Apothecaries. They tithe of gene seed samples they're required to send in are handed over to highly trained Imperial agents, who take the geneseed directly to Mars or the nearest Mechanicus station to be relayed to Mars. These guys are not likely to give up the geneseed easily...I mean honestly, would you want your bossses on Mars and a Spacee Marine chapter mad at you for losing thier gene seed? (That's whay that little dude in the BfM boxed set was willing to crawl out of his ship and take on a mass of 'nids with just a pistol XD)
Good luck wrestling the gene seed away from such tight security.
So how easily is it to find info on a Chapter? I mean in 40k terms. Could a Tribe of Kroot happen to come across the whereabouts of these labs? Is it that hard to invade a planet to achieve my goal? I was thinking of a Secure and Control mission for the improvement of such information for the Kroot as an introduction. Unit wise, would the defending Dark Angels have a sh!t load of guys protecting their labs? Enough to thwart the Kroot Invasion? If so, do you know of the possible ratios of a big kroot invasion to the steadfast Angels? Thanks!
The geneseed of the DA is held deep in their Fortress Monastery, which is by all means virtually unconquerable. The Rock is not only protected by their vast fleet of battle barges and strike cruisers, itself is a battleship of its own right. I can't imagine some Kroots getting even close before blasted into pieces.
Humanitas dominatus omnis, de iam dum terminus aetas
if you read angel of darkness there is a secret hoard of geneseed whitch the fallen take.
if the kroot were to somehow find a base with secret geneseed the Dark Angels would be really yellow watered off!
we're not running, we're attacking in another direction!

Wouldn't happen in a hurry. As has been said, the geneseed is stored either in a fortress-monastery, or Mars (I personally thought it was Terra, but now it's mentioned Mars makes more sense). And breaking into a fortress-monastery would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible, for Kroot.
id try an army other than the kroot. It just doesnt seem to work in my mind.Anyway each chapter keeps there geneseed on there home planet at least there supposed to (something to do with mars protocall) i heard that a sm chapters geen-seed is stored in a vault that can survive in space(say if the planet explodes) and is impenetrable by any weapon.
INNOCENCE IS NOT IMMUNITY
It just wouldnt happen. even if the Kroot, or any army for that matter, did manage to get even a little bit too close, the defence would be horrific. i mean, and entire chapters. 1000, space marines, along with all their space craft and weapons. No way. and if they managed to get into the storage areas, its likely the head Apothacary wud destroy the Geneseed stored there.
However, the Kroot gain genes from their victims by eating them. why not have the Kroot ambush a group of space marines whilst on a mission, defeat them, and feast on their bodies? voila, insant elite super-kroot.
storm of Iron by Graham McNeil is all about the Iron Warriors assaulting a secret AM geneseed store
Tyranids have produced new organisms which are feared to be the result of absorbed Marine genetic material
Deversnik beat me to it, but the whole time I was thinking of Storm of Iron. Lightly defended barren world, I think one guard company just sitting there, and an entire unknown Mechanicus lab underneath. The Iron Warriors Iron Master (is that the chapter master of a Iron Warriors unit) was tasked to steal the geneseed to rise to daemonhood.
*EDIT* Contains a small unit of Imperial Fists in the book, too. Just happened to be passing through. Also goes on to explain some of the Mechanicus' treachery.
