I was always curious, do the four chaos gods manifest themselves physically or are they spiritual essences (like the emperor once was a man and now is a spiritual essence)? and secondly, since they hate each other so much how come they havent personally set about destroying each other instead of using pawns like marines and traitor guardsmen?
1. The chaos gods are warp entities. They don't exist in the physical world, and they can't exist in the physical world. There isn't enough warp energy to sustain them.
There are references to their physical 'appearances', (i.e. nurgle as a giant great unclean one) but I don't think this is supposed to be taken literally.
In fact, the chaos gods don't really interact personally with the world very often at all. As far as I'm aware, they only communicated directly with the Primarchs.
2. I don't think they have the overwhelming power needed to destroy each other. Imagine if Khorne, the most powerful Chaos god, destroyed Slannesh (the weakest) Even then, Khorne would have been weakened by his battle, and Nurgle and Tzeentch would move in and destroy him.
Besides, they do work together when it suits them, so they're clearly not so consumed with hatred that it governs everything they do.

Sorry i should have been more clear. I read the 'Fluff Bible', which im not sure should be taken for actual fluff. Correct if im wrong, its been bothering me for awhile since it has such good stuff in it. According to that, the chaos gods have forms in the warp itself, Slaanesh is half man half woman, has a jade sceptre and what not, father Nurgle is a giant rotting bloated form with nuglings running all over him picking and eating at his festers (yuck) etc. I was just wondering if this is true.
i just take what they look like from the pictures in codex they all look human but they all have diferent qualitys that represent them and how is slaanesh sposed to be the most beutiful thing ever (its) horrible!
All the Chaos gods dislike the others for some reason. For example, Khorne is disgusted at Tzeencth since he reckons that magic is for pussies.
The Chaos Gods do fight each other, but it's mainly just for sport. There is an record of this occuring during the Horus Heresy:
In order to minimise the resistance against his forces, Horus sent the Loyalist Legion to the opposite sides of the galaxy on missions. The Blood Angels were sent on one such mission, the breifing said they were to put down a rebellion but all they encounted was a Daemon World where the Champions of Khorne and Slannesh have been fighting each other for centuries, with neither side being able to gain a significant advantage. Needless to say, the Blood Angels retreated, but only after Sanguinius killed Slannesh's Champion, Kryss the Perverse. Eight hundred Blood Angels were killed by a mighty Bloodthrister in a single swirling combat (I think this is what caused the Black Rage, since the Bloodthrister says to Sanguinius that "This will leave a far deeper scar than me killing you.")

Chaotic fury and Zveroboy the sources of your respective posts would be extremely helpful to me please thank you.
THe Black Rage/The Red Thirst are caused by the death of Sanguinius. His shattered corpse was used to create new Geneseed for the Blood Angels because their battle losses were so high that they would have been destroyed without creating new Space Marine Organs from his body. The problem was that the final moments of his fight with Horus and his death were somehow inside the genetic code of the new organs, leading some Blood Angels to have visions of this battle.Originally Posted by Zveroboy

Kelnor: My bad. This is taken striaght from the book:
The Bloodthrister had defeated the Primarch in hand-to-hand combat, Sanguinius' legs were crushed by the whips of the 'Thirster. The Daemon let him live, and then proceeded to kill 500 Space Marines (not 800, my mistake). This caused the Primarch such emotional pain that he immeadiately blacked out.

I have volume 1 so it must be volume two. Thanks.
So the mighty Blood Angels Primarch, who is said to be the best Primarch in CC (rivaled by Angron), who broke the back of another Bloodthirster after fighting for 55 days and whi fought with Horus himself was almost killed by an ordinary Bloodthirster?
