Warp energy is of two types; pure, which the emperor and sensei draw their power from and the dark essence which is basically what the chaos gods are. So if the four chaos gods were created from negative energy driven by dark emotions, why arent there any good chaos gods that come about from honour and love and such like. Surely theres plenty of these to go around in the Imperium. After all, theres nothing a marine loves more than his emperor, his brothers and his fellow humans so why isnt there a pure chaos god/s from such good emotions?
I don't think there's a distinction between pure and dark energy.. There is just warp energy. The Emperor, however, didn't suffer from base emotions in the same way as regular humans, and was thus immune to the temptations of the chaos gods. (I do have fluff sources for this. I will try and dig them out, but they're probably lost under a mountain.)
Similarly, I don't think the chaos gods are evil.. But they are the most raw and primal emotions, on which more complex human concepts are constructed. i.e.
Love is merely a way of justifying the primal, human urge to reproduce.
Honour is merely a way of justifying the primal, human urge to compete, and to fight.
I think it's quite effectively done.
The problem with the emotions which the chaos gods embody is that they are not balanced to a level humans find rational. The chaos gods, understandably, don't really feel anything else (they are the emotions they embody) so they do funny things, like turning their followers into blood-soaked crazies or heightening their senses a thousandfold.
Competition is good for humans, constant war and killing is not. Love is good for humans, depraved, excessive hedonism is not (though some might disagree!) Hence, the chaos gods take concepts which aren't 'evil', and make them evil.

I could have sworn i read somewhere that warp energy is in two forms, pure and dark. Dark is what every normal psyker draws from. Pure is what the Emperor used and some of those special psykers that are said to be his kids or something like that. Psykers who use dark (normal) energy can be tracked by other psykers and daemons, psykers who use pure energy are stronger than the others and cannot be traced by other psykers and are never affected by the threat of daemonic infestation. Meh, guess i have to do some reading up again, thanks for your input though, well appreciated.
i think there are more chaos gods. however there isnt that much love in the 40k universe so i imagine they are not very powerfull. so all the good gods probably get less emotions or something and are less powerfull
I would agree with Mantis on nurgle, Tztneech, and Khorne but not on Slannesh. I think that he is evil because he came into existance with the fall of the eldar and he eats the souls of eldar not protected by a soul stone. I know that he is the pleasure god and he could just be the embodyment of the emotions invovled with finding pleasure or perfection for that matter since that is what caused the eldar to fall but I think that he thrives more on eating eldar than anything else.

The Eldar created their gods through the warp just like the chaos gods. They're the manifestations of the psyche (just like the chaos gods):
God of hunt and prey = Kurnous the Hunter
God of the dead = Ynnead
Goddess of fortune and dreams = Lileath the Maiden
Goddess of harvest = Isha
Goddess of mortal souls and fate = Morai-heg the Crone
The Bloody-handed god of the Eldar = Kaela Mensha Khaine (Bloody-handed Khaine)
The great Harlequin = Cegorach (also "the great fool")
The Phoenix king = Asuryan
The smith god = Vaul the crippled (Brother to Kurnour and Isha)
Steed of Khaine = Alean
Eagel of heaven = Endobai (companion of Cegorach)
Children of Kurnous and Isha = Eldanesh and Ulthanash
Gea = Unknown female deity
Faolchú = Falcon (symbol of retribution)
Yngir = Demi-god/ group of demi-gods
some of them are good, some of them are bad, but most of them are dead.
Is all good...
Is all good...
You've got a point.. But Slannesh's domain is actually very wide. He is not just the god of pleasure, he is the god of sensation. This includes pain.
Slannesh also considers nothing for the lives and existence of others. Its follows demonstrate this quite notably in the fact that they're quite happy to render down the populations of entire cities to create drugs to heighten their experiences.
Who can say what Slannesh' motivation towards the eldar is. As far as I'm aware, they don't cease to be when they're consumed at all, they just suffer for eternity. Just as the Emperor's children take slaves on which to refine their experiences, maybe Slannesh needs eldar souls for much the same reason. Mmm.. ghostly love slaves!
The eldar gods were warp entities.. Strangely, I never considered them though. I always thought they were something a little different to the 'real' chaos gods (hence the massive difference in power. Slannesh is the weakest of the major chaos gods, and he still ate them all.)
Is it possible to be a warp entity and not to be daemonic?
Maybe the 'pure' and 'dark' energy thing is true? I'm sure I've read things which seem to indicate that it was simply the Emperor's abseloute self-mastery which allowed him to use the warp safely (after all, the primachs were supposed to be mini-emperors, why couldn't they use it?) but I could be wrong.
Everything that I have read says that the warp is a twisting place and all of the beings that come out of it don't really look all that normal to a human. If that is true then it wouldn't matter to anyone in the Imperium at least if it is good or evil. It looks like a daemon or a mutant. Kill it. That would be the reaction. Knowing that it may be that there are alot of good warp entities out there but the Imperium doesn't realise it because of their fear of all things that come out of th warp. Also it could be argued that since no human could experience the warp in the same way that a warp being does without going insane then it would reason that no warp entity could experience the real world the same way. So it might act perfectly normal for the warp but in doing so it would be considered evil for some of the things that it does. I hope that was explained well if not I will try again.

Basically the problem is this. all of the 'good' emotions are taken up by the God-Emperor. When the Emperor could still walk and talk everything was allot more positive. Then Horus was corrupted and took the Emperor out of action. Soon their after everything went to hell and has more or less stayed there ever since. But the good news is that eventually a psyker with healing powers will heal the Emperor and when that happens the gods of chaos had better watch out!
