does anyone have the fluff regarding lion el'johnson, the lion sword, luthor and the sword of secrets?
Well, it never hurts to look at the codex...
But long story short, Luther, feeling left out, incites rebellion on Caliban, the DA homeworld, while Lion is out crusading in the name of the Emperor. Luthur and Lion'el befriended each other during their childhood. Lion returns home to find everything in total disarray and kills Luther and his supporters flee and become the Fallen. The Lion Sword is carried by Cypher, leader of the Fallen. He never uses it in battle which leads some to believe that he wishes to return to Earth and repent in front of the Emperor. (Also, his movements seem to always take him closer and closer to Terra.)
Not quite sure about anything more concrete about the Sword of Secrets except that it's held by the Supreme Grand Master of the DA.
Luther was the first primarch the Emperor made, when Chaos kidnapped him and his brother and whisked them away Lion landed in the forests of the deathworld of Caliban. Unlike the other primarchs that had the luxury of landing near people or kind animals Lion was forced to fend for himself for the first years of his life, he would never speak of what happened during this time. On Caliban there was an order known (I believe) as the Kights of Caliban that fought against the evil chaos monsters that roamed the planet. A hunting party of the knights found a young adult Lion in the woods and were about to kill him when a young knight named Luther told them to stop. Luther took Lion under his protection and taught him the ways of men and the two became best friends. Luther and Lion rose quickly through the ranks of the knights due to Lion's strategic genius and Luther's fiery oratories. Lion later became the head of the order with Luther as his second in command and they launched a crusade to eliminate the beasts of Caliban. This is when the seeds of jealousy were first planted in Luther, because he believed he deserved to be the top dog.
Then the Emperor and his armies came to Caliban and the leadership of the Dark Angels was given to Lion. Those knights who were still young enough were turned into marines and after seeing the bravery of many of the older knights the Emperor summoned the best of apothecaries to make these men as close to marines as they could become. Luther was the first to undergo this process and remained Lion's second in command. Lion left with most of the marines to fight in the great crusade and Luther stayed behind to guard Caliban. This is where accounts begin to differ along 2 lines.
1) Luther began to grow resentful of being left behind on Caliban and was seduced by the powers of Chaos into betraying Lion and brought mant Dark Angles over to his side. When the primarch returned to Caliban Luther attacked him and Lion was forced to attack Caliban to expunge the taint.
2) Lion was paranoid, and ordered Luther to stay behind because he feared Luther would subvert him. He later exiled those Dark Angels that were not originally from Caliban back to the planet if they disagreed with him. On Caliban Luther and the others realized that Lion wasn't right in the head and that he had waited out the heresy to see who won. They attacked him when he entered orbit. Lion was then forced to attack Caliban to prevent the truth from getting out.
Both stories end the same way however: Lion and Luther duel in the largest fortress on Caliban. Lion has the advantage but cannot bring himself to slay his closest friend. Luther doesn't suffer from the same feeling and backed by the power of the Chaos Gods Luther mortally wounds Lion. Lion then psychicly attacks Luther mortally wounding him. As Luther collapses beside Lion he repents and chaos throws a tantrum ripping Caliban apart and scattering the Fallen throughout space and time. Lion is taken away by the watchers in the dark to recover in a hidden place. Luther is found amongst the ruins of what would become the Rock claiming Lion would return to forgive him and the Fallen and placed in the deepest cell for all eternity. The Lion sleeps within a hidden chamber in the Rock guarded by the watchers recovering from his wounds.
and this is an enourmous post

Hmm, thats the very first time i ever heard some of this stuff. From what i read when Lion landed on Caliban he roamed like a wild animal for awhile, then one day he heard human laughter and got curious. Luther and his men werent too pleased to see him, fought him and subdued him (A primarch getting taken by a group of normal humans pffft and the dark angels want respect?). Luther's men wanted to kill him, Luther said no. They became friends and all that good stuff, Lion soon became ruler as stated above. The trouble started when the emperor came, Lion left Luthor in charge of Caliban in case he died during the crusade so the legion would have a more than capable leader in the event he was no more. Luthor didnt see it that way, got jealous, swayed the angels on Caliban. Lion went into deep depression when half his brothers went traitor, his dad died, his beloved brother died (Sanguinius) and he almost killed his best friend and brother (Leman Russ). Transformed the legion according to the codex astartes with a few minor changes (Deathwing, Ravenwing), went home with new resolve to rest and plan his expedition into the eye of terror to get his other brothers (kill or talk to, i dunno), discovered Luthor went traitor and got severely pissed. Threw away all tactics and went Space Wolves on everybody with a blind frontal assault. Caught Luthor in the fortress monastery, fought, two were evenly matched (Luthor enhanced by chaos). Lion gained the upper hand but hesitated, Luthor did no such thing, channelled all his psychic might and unleashed it on Lion. Lion held up the Lion Sword to block it, sword got broken, psychic attack got through and severly wounded Lion. Lion wracked with pain was using all his might to stand, the pyschic attack made Luthor weak and thus weakened the grip chaos had on him. Saw what he did and went instantly insane, dropped beside Lion to ask for forgiveness. Chaos gods got pissed and their anger opened up the hole in the warp that sucked up the traitor angels and scattered them through time and space. The rest of loyal angels got through the rubble created by the fight and only found Luthor crying literally like a baby. No sign of Lion, who was carried away by his pets, the watchers in the dark. They put him in the deepest bowels of Caliban where no one except the watchers and i guess the emperor knows about, hes sleeping until the final battle.

You can find detailed fluff in the 2nd edition, 'Angels Of Death' Codex, a joint codex for Blood Angels and Dark Angels. You can usually pick one up cheap on eBay.
When they subdued the lion he was a naked 14 year old with mane like hair and 12 long finger nails(Hence the lion) He had just been fight ing a chaos beast who stabbed him. Then luthors guys shot him with bolt pistols and all ganged up on him before thorwing him in a net on him (sure the Primarches could break bloodthirster's backs over their knees but when their in puberty and get kicked in the balls a couple times and they drop like flys)Originally Posted by Grand Master Saiyan Sanguine

Sanguinius survived unharmed (not even radiation blisters) as an infant upon a world so radioactive none of its inhabitants could last more than a few minutes without suits.
But then again, Leman Russ was subdued by poison arrows as a kid.
GW seems to have got some wierd inconsistencies regarding how tough primachs are.

See now that's how I've taken it. It actually seems to fit. He was always a strategic planner, and wouldn't commit until late into the battle. Sorry to all you DA players out there, but that's my opinion. Oo, and my source is a Black Library book. Can't remember the name of it though.
