Default The Black Knights Chapter

Chapter Name: The Black Knights

Designation: Loyalist

Codex Adherence Level: Divergent
(See but Don't Be Seen. Take the Fight to Them.)

Primarch: Rogal Dorn

Homeworld: Avalon IV(Feudal World)/ Raza System

Symbol: The Ebon Sword

FOUNDING HISTORY:

A young Chapter, founded somewhere around Five Hundred years ago, The Black Knights are A Successor Chapter of the Imperial Fists.

Founded in part as a precaution against leaving the valuable forgeworld of Raza unprotected save for a few Guard Regiments and Tech Guard, and in part due to a comparatively light Inquisitional Presence in the sector, these reasons decided the council of Terra in ordering the Chapters founding. Raza being one of the few worlds left int he imperium with the know how to accurately and steadily produce the vaunted plasma weapon technology.

At the Chapters inception Several officers from different Chapters were seconded to the Inquisitorial overseers to build and balance the Chapter, and train the new marines in the ways of the Imperium. The Ordo Xenos took the largest interest, and hand in guiding the fledgling chapter, due to Tyranid threat and a massive Hrud incursion as the Xenos tinkerer's fled from a mighty WAGGGHHH! Led by the Warboss Roberork. As such many of the Chapters Ranking Officers were members of the Deathwatch Chapter militant. It created an interesting Dichotomy when thoughts of how to Train the chapter were voiced.

THE BEGINNING:

It was decided by the Deathwatch Officers that a great Duel and Hunt decide the fate of the chapter. This rankled some of the Officers, but when put to council it was decided that Assigning Command Merit-wise was Impossible until The chapter was Capable of seeing action and Campaigning or launching Crusades.
The Deathwatch Members were:

Captain Tyreaus Maxille, of the Imperial Fists
Librarian Hestus Yvaarn, of the Blood Ravens
Brother Gessah Hestval, of the Space Wolves
Brother Marcus Regall, Of the Crimson Fists
Brother Semus Jakkato, of the Mantis Warriors
Sergeant Maros Ferros, of The Iron Hands
Brother Jennison Jaxus, of the Raven Guard
Sergeant Vereal Uther, of the Ultramarines
Brother Westus Quentain, of the Angels Encarmine
Sergeant Quentan Filexx, of the Mortifactors

These were the officers responsible for founding the building blocks upon which would be built another Glorious chapter to Defend the Empire of Man int he name of Him-On-Earth.

The First Succession:

So it was that when the first company of The Black Knights awoke from Their Gene sleep and donned the armor of a scout in the Emperors Space Marines they were educated in the history of the Space Marines Service, and the Emperors Grand Design for his chosen warriors.

Great hunts were staged, as the feudal World of Avalon IV was home to many dangerous and exotic predators. It was during these great hunts that The Deathwatch Officers first were able to gauge their recruits and their abilities.

There was Starzic Hollow, a quiet efficient killer whose skills in stealth and guerilla warfare were immediately apparent as he slew beast after beast with precision and help from none.

Wilhelm Gorven, whose courage and loyalty to his brothers was unmatched as he charged headlong into a pack of Rabid Fen Drakes to save the lives of two of his brethren caught unawares by the wily predators.

Then there were the Brothers Faust, Brant and Aron. They were a rarity among the Emperor's finest. Blood Brothers bound by both The Primarch and their own Patriarchs blood. Honorable and steady the two of them were able to best most any challenge that met them. And were the first to gather to themselves a squad of sorts to bring down the great Mountain Dragon that to this day, rest's it's preserved head within the chapters great hall.

Roliant Hisen, exemplary among the recruits for his unflinching courage when faced with insurmountable odds. It was he whose truck the final blow against the Mountain Dragon, while battling against the Brothers Faust and their firm squad mates,Rolent Histen watched the Death of the first of their company as the great beast toppled a huge boulder slide atop the recruit. Saddened and Enraged he drew the knives from their sheathes and climbed the beast's neck in bloody gashes to end it's life and rampage.

Thus did the remaining recruits earn the right to don the sacred Power Armor and Bolter that were their birthrights. Thus could the Ascension begin.

THE TEN TENANTS:

On the Third Year after the Chapters Founding a great meeting was called. All two hundred and fifty-seven Inaugural members of the Black Knights chapter, along with the next class of initiates were called to gather in the Ebon Cathedral. It was here, int he Great Council Halls where it was announced that the Chapter had indeed come into it's own. And now was the time for leaders to be selected, and a Master Chosen.

Inquisitor Vaghn Orshaad, of the Ordo Xenos was present, as this was a moment of Triumph for the Inquisition as well. He was to act as agent of the Ordo's and elicit Oaths of Bonding and Blood in the name of the Holy Inquisition. This wasn't to be a hard errand, The Chapter as a whole were aware the Debt they owed to Terra and The Inquisition, for it was they who had Permitted their birth, and they who had given them the means to fight the enemies of the Emperor.

As The Deathwatch Council Called for order, they announced their departure ... and that the Chapter Should choose it's won leaders, as they were here but to lead the way. Each of the Deathwatch Officers left with the Chapter a Lesson to live by, these are the tenants that have become sacred to the chapter.

It was Captain Tyreaus Maxille who first spoke. The words to this day are chiseled upon the basalt walls of the great council hall. These are the words of The Death Council.

Captain Tyreaus Maxille of The Imperial Fists-

"Know this Brothers. We have shared and spilled our blood together, as true warriors should. We each know our hearts and our courage. Let this knowledge guide you in your future, glorious as it is to be... Faith is our Weapon, Faith in the Emperor, Faith in Our Brothers, Faith in Ourselves."

Librairain Hestus Yvaarn of the Blood Ravens-

"We who have traveled the stars and fought the Wars of The Emperor for longer than you have lived...We have come to possess knowledge. Let Knowledge be your byword, Knowledge of The Enemy, The Heretic, The Xenos. Let the knowledge you gain serve you, and in doing so serve the Emperor. For while Faith is our Weapon, Knowledge is the light that illuminates our path."

Sergeant Maros Ferros of the Iron Hands-

"The Flesh is weak. The Emperor's flesh itself fell to Horus's betrayal. But AS the Emperor perseveres, so must we endeavor to. Know that the flesh will fail, the flesh will die. Persevere despite this weakness and in that act lies true faith and courage."

Sergeant Vereal Uther of the Ultramarines-

"Discipline. It is this which has gotten you this far. Discipline saw you through the perils of your training. Discipline brought us victory at Stratus Illuminae against the Hrud. Discipline Will save you on the field, and in the fortress of your mind. The Codex be your guideline's and victory shall come swiftly. Praise The Emperor and Gulliman."

Sergeant Quentan Filexx of the Mortifactors-

"Remember always the lessons of the past. The Hero's who come before you. Remember them in honor, and aspire to their heights. But let not pride be your sin, as to do so is to sully those whose blood has made the path on which you now tread. Remember the Ancients Brothers, Remember the glory."

Brother Gessah Hestval of the Space Wolves-

"Be fierce in the persecution of your enemies. Show no fear and fight with fury and fervor. Never Relent while there is an enemy on the field. Never relent in the face of a foe. Be fierce in both your Heart and Soul."

Brother Marcus Regall Of the Crimson Fists-

"Faith in Dorn, Faith in the Emperor. Despise those who hide from their light. Hate those who break their oaths. Destroy those who would unmake what they have made."

Brother Semus Jakkato of the Mantis Warriors-

"Waste not what the Emperor and your Primarch have given you. Your lives are the Emperor's, and to die in his service is the best death anyone can hope for. But to LIVE for the Emperor, and continue destroying his enemies is truly the greatest honor that there is."

Brother Jennison Jaxus of the Raven Guard-

"Strike Decisively, and Definitively. Leave no one standing and nothing to hide in. Do not give your enemy cause to fear you until it is too late. Fear from a distance heightens senses and Caution, Fear in one's face...spells doom. Speed and Silence to you all."

Brother Westus Quentain of the Angels Encarmine-

"Nothing is as strong as the Bond between brothers. Together you will see each other through war, rage and defeat. Together you will raise each other to victory and conquest. Leave no one behind, and let no bad blood flow. Alone you are nothing. Together you are Legendary."

And with that the Death Council left the hall, each bestowing a token of blessing unto the chapter which they shed blood for. Which they acted as father's for, never returning Avalon IV again.

And so, bereft of the guidance of their former commanders the Marines of the Black Knights sat in silence until their fledgling Chaplain, Martimus spoke. He said that Eleven should be the number of their leaders, and One shall be their head and heart.

Thus did Aron Faust become Captain of the First Company, and Brant Faust the Second.

Wilhelm Gorven assumed the rank of Third Captain.

Rolient Hisen accepted Mantle of Captain of the Fourth Company.

And Starzic Hollow did agree to become Master of the fifth.

Each of the Companies were divided into Fifty Marines Each. And the Specialists, Techmarines Durvaal, Aristol,Narvaal. Librarians Vertel and Taithleach. Apothecaries Lekall and Mantimaar all assigned their positions. Now the Matter of Choosing a head of the Chapter.

It is at this time that Inquisitor Orshaad stepped forward. And in his wisdom he did advise that rather than a single Master, the Black Knights form a Council. As much in honor of the Death Council, their benefactors, as in prudence to the fledgling chapters state. The Idea was Agreed upon unanimously, and thus did the history of the Black Knights begin.

DUTIES OF A BLACK KNIGHT COMPANY:

Each Company Captain is the Leader of a Hundred strong Men. And as such he must adhere body, mind and soul to the Ten Tenants upon which the chapter was built.

Faith
Knowledge
Duty
Discipline
Glory
Strength
Fervor
Caution
Brotherhood

These are the Tenants of a Black Knight. Sacred to the Chapter.

Each Company is responsible for Recruiting it's own initiates from the corners of Avalon IV and the Raza System. Three Times a Year, as time allows the Entirety of the Chapter Meet int he Great Council to share in each other's exploits and further instill the bonds of brotherhood. A Sacred moment of The Great Feast is also when each Companies Chaplain comes forward in the Hour Of Mourning and Extolls the names of the Companies fallen, whose names are then added to the Chapter Standard and the individual Company Standards. A purity seal placed On the Mantle Of the Dragons Head, in memory of their fallen comrades. This is also when Reserve members and Initiates are allowed into service as full battle brothers and is a cause for quiet reflection and celebration.

DATES OF GLORY:

The Battle for Teraxus Secondus-

The foul World Eaters Chaos Marines brutally slaughtered almost a sixth of the frozen planets population in their crazed campaign to steal and destroy a potent artifact from the holy Reliquaries of a Mission of the Order of Our Martyred Lady. The Planetary Defense Force and Sisters of Our Martyred Lady fought valiantly, awaiting reinforcements from any quarter as they were forced to give ground. inch by Inch.

Then on the third week of the planetary struggle the Great Company of Wolf Lord Kjanson Cloudcleaver landed and it seemed as though the arrival of the Doughty Space Wolves might turn the tide of the battle for the Imperials.

Foul Daemonology was worked however as the population of Genesis Omega, the Planets third largest city were ritually sacrificed and from the Bloodstorm Erupted the foul Blood Thirster J'hatzregaal and a legion of daemonic followers.

Just as the fighting looked bleakest hope arrived anew. Several Thunderhawks in the Colors of The Black Knights screamed over the Tundra of the blood soaked battlefield, laying waste with their weapons and scorching clear a hole in the horde of the enemies. Captain Aron Faust, now known as Aron Orcdeath, led the entirety of the Chapter's thirty terminators in a deepstrike into the heart of the enemy. The Imperial Warriors took heart at the Valiant sight, wavering as they realized how few there were. However Great Wolf Cloudcleaver Bellowed out a warcry to his brothers and led his Great pack in the an assault, hoping to assist the Valiant warriors. Many of the Imperial Guardsmen, taken up in the moment of fierce human pride jumped free of the Trenches, and Lasguns blasting, charged forward to meet the enemy with Bayonet and chainsword. And in that truly crucial moment Captain Brant Faust, the Savior of Regentis III led his company from the Thunderhawks, Descending upon the unholy hoard in a burning mass of Jump packs and rain of Bolter fire.

As the Thunderhawks continued their assault it seemed the Impetus of The Imperial charge might win the day. Guardsmen fought Daemon, Heretic and Traitor marine Alike. Marine saved Marine, Wolf, Saved Knight, Guard saved marine..truly and hour to be remembered in song and legend. But at the most fateful moment the Dread Bloodthirster J'hatzregaal burst from the flesh of it's Traitorous host and in a moment, slew the Veteran Trebonius, one of the first Black Knights, and friend to Aron Orcdeath.

Captain Aron Charged forward, Deftly dodging the beasts lumbering strikes, until the Khornate Thing Brought it's hellforged Axe down to slice the impetuous human in two. Aron swung his Powerfist, an artifact from the Dark Age of Technology, Called Ebonhand, and Destroyed the beasts weapon, even though it blasted him to the ground, wounding him badly.

It seemed a great hero of the Imperium would die at the hands of that beast, indeed the rest of the battle seemed to slow as the lashing daemon whip was raised to come down and flail the soul of the Mighty Marine from his body. But then, in a moment remembered tot his day by Space Wolf, Guardsmen, and Black knight alike Great wolf Cloudcleaver Dove forward and severed the beast's whip from it's hand. A infuriated daemon grabbed the Great Wolf and made to tear the hero's arms free for this insolence. But Robert Mikhail, a Marine who ahd only four months prior been given his power armor and inducted as a battle brother let loose a cry and grabbed the Fallen Trebonius's sword, the powerfield humming on and charged the winged monstrosity, swinging with the strength of the primarch he severed the creatures hand, letting the mighty Wolflord fall free of the creatures deadly embrace. As the mighty daemon let out a terrible roar of anger, flames pouring from it's nostrils and eyes the yougn Marine, undeterred drove the blade into the chest of the creature,
the daemon forged armor no protection against a blade driven by the Emperor's Faithful.

Rearing back on it's legs, flinging the young hero aside . Captain Aron screamed over his vox for his Marines to open fire, and under a torrent of storm bolter fire the beast dropped to it's knees. With a battlecry to stir Russ himself the Wolflord swung his poweraxe in a fell blow nearly separating the beasts head from it's shoulders, destroying and banishing the foul thing for another century and a day. With their master defeated, and the majority of the Traitors dead the daemonic horde shimmered out of existence as it's denizens were dragged screaming back into the warp.

And on the bloody tundra of Teraxus Secondus the Captain of the Black Knights did swear an oath of brotherhood with Wolf Lord Kjanson Cloudcleaver, that should either chapter seek aid when going to war, that the other shall answer with speed and fervor. That oath binds them to this day, and has seen many a victorious campaign brought to the fireside tales of the Great Council Halls, and The Great Feasts of Fenris.

That day saw many hero's of the Imperium fall to their fell foes. But many were named great as well. Robert Mikhail was named Champion of the Second Company and gifted the sword of the Fallen Trebonius. Sergeant Kell Detrick was given his rank after rallying several decimated squads together and forming a blockade against a rear flanking action taken by the traitors. Battle Brother Tves Svengesson was named as a Brother of the Wolf Guard for felling a Champion of the Traitors in single combat.

It is remembered to this day in the Great Council hall, the deeds committed to scroll and Dataslate, hung beneath the ruined haft of the Bloodthirster's great axe.

A truly exceptional piece of work. It thouroughly and artfully describes the formation of the chapter, where it came from, and why the bonds it has exist. No critisism on my part, only good things.

A lot of chapters are from Rogal. Being made from the IF doesn't make your chapter special.

This fluff is long, extensive, and overall far too big for me to read comfortably. There's such a thing as 'too big.' Most of the fluff for the official chapters can be sized down to like, a page. And that's the big chapters, the ones with the ten-thousand-year history. This one is five hundred years old and it takes me ten seconds to scroll down the page.

Your grammar is also bad, and while I hate to be a grammar nazi or anything like that, it's nigh upon impossible to read three pages of badly written fluff.

Your grammar is also bad, and while I hate to be a grammar nazi or anything like that, it's nigh upon impossible to read three pages of badly written fluff. So the most I can offer is this;

1. Don't **** up.
If it is to long then why are you reading the fluff forum? That is pretty short and to the point I think. If you want it to take less time to scroll down the page then get a wheel mouse and set the line scroll to 3.

I thought the grammar was fine and it had a old english feel to it. Not quite old english but I think it was the knightly aspect of it that made me think like that.

1. Give good advice, Don't **** up isn't good advice.

Now to the fluff. I thought that it was a wonderful read. I am not sure about the Lords of Terra sanctioning a chapter founding but I like the hunt idea. Also I would think that if it was a Knight oriented chapter then it wouldn't have see but don't be seen. Just my thoughts. Over all it is one of the most original pieces that my eyes have seen in a long time. I would love to read more if you have any.

Since there are only 2 successors to the IF I woul think that it would make you more special than if you were of the Ultramarine geneseed.

It's eight pages long. That's long. If it was old English, you wouldn't be able to read it. Old English is "The Canterbury Tales." This is just bad English.

To Faust; I apologise if I came off as somewhat insulting. What I meant to say was that it looked good, but I couldn't bring myself to read it all. What's important to remember is that you should only heed the advice of people who compliment you, because they're the only people who matter.

Also, I hate totalitarian mods. Free speech, I say, free speech!

Eight pages........long? Nah. Lord of the Rings is long. I have over 50 pages of fluff and stories for my chapter, I just have to remeber to bring it to school on my usb and post it!
Why would I not be able to read it if it was in old english? I have read the canterberry tales and king james version of the bible they weren't that hard.

If you should only listen to the people that compliment you, why did you bother posting if you don't think he should listen to people who don't compliment?

The longer the Better.Everybody should be this detailed in thier fluff.

Anyways this is good stuff. I'm not too sure about the Inquisition being so heavily involved with the actual sanctioning and creation of the chapter, but I totaly dig how the Ordo Xenos Death Squad sort of adopted the fledgling chapter and got them on thier feet. Very nicely done. ^_^

1. Don't comment on stuff you haven't bothered to read.

2. Have some tollerance. The gramatical mistakes are infinately less of a problem than in many posts I've read, including some of my own. Not everyone can write perfect English grammar, some people don't even write English as a first language, so if you continue being intollerant, you'll upset people.

3. Don't criticise people for taking the time to write long fluff. No one is forcing you to read it (see rule 1.) Some people don't have a short attention span, and enjoy reading long, detailed descriptions.

The fluff is generally quite good.. But 3 marines killing a bloodthirster with no injuries/casualties? Regardless of how good they are, those are pretty scary marines. Also, I'm in doubt over whether they could take its weaponry.. a bloodthirsters weaponry is formed from the warp, after all.. I'd imagine it is banished back to the warp with its owner.

I like the fluff, although a few things I question.

I also doubt the High Lords of Terra actually having the authority to found another chapter.

The age of the Chapter may also be disputed.

The year 40,738 was the last founding, 26th founding.

Hope my input helps.
