heya! does anyone know anything about doom eagles fluff? nobody I know seems to know anything about them...
sounds like some raven gaurd wanna bee's yes i have heard of them i foget the word but i think the deprived from the raven gaurd
sorry i forgot the word
All I know is that they're one of the many Ultramarines sucessors and follow the codex pretty closely, though I think they're a bit heavy on assaulting. I know they fought some Nurgle army in Belis Corona during Abaddon's most recent Black Crusade, but that's about it.They're most likely one of those that nobody ever wrote any fluff for,so it's all up to you I guess.
There is a story on them in one of the chaos novels. One of the ones that consists of compiled short stories. The story was about the recruitment test of young kids. Apparently the fluff is that they completely believe that there already dead, so they throw themselves at enemies to serve the emperor with no regard to their own lives. They believe there already "doomed" as it were.
Actually, there are a few fluff stories about the Doom Eagles to be found. I can recall four off the top of my head: ‘On Mournful Wings’ by Si Spurrier, which can be found in the anthology ‘Crucible of War’, ‘Crimson Night’ by James Swallow from the anthology ‘What Price Victory’, ‘Relics’, also by James Swallow, can be found in Inferno! magazine #43, and finally ‘Plague Ship’ by Jim Alexander in Inferno! #40.
As Edicius says, there is not much official fluff on the Doom Eagles to be found, not even in the stories mentioned above. They’re a successor Chapter of the Ultramarines, and that’s about that. According to the short story by Si Spurrier, though, they do seem quite focused on their own mortality. As Numberofthebeastxxx mentioned, they are told at their initiation that they did not survive the initiation ritual, that they are already dead. They believe that only by detaching themselves from life itself can they achieve the strength to fight the enemies of the Imperium. However, this rather gloomy outlook doesn’t seem to affect them in battle to any large degree, and hasn’t really been included in the other stories about the Chapter, so I think it would be possible to make quite a large portion of fluff yourself and focus less on this aspect of the Chapter’s philosophies.

should I just use regular ultramarines rules then? also does anyone know if allies (inquisitors, assassins, etc) would be fluffy for doom eagles?
You can, or you can give them some of those nifty traits in the Space Marine codex. It's all up to you since GW never bothered making rules for 'em. Sounds to me like Inquisitorial allies would be very fluffly. Appearently they consider themselves expendable, which is exactly how the Inquisition probably feels about them,so the two organisations should get along quite well. ^_^
