Doesn't work. The Old Ones set Humanity's development in motion and were killed by the Necrontyr soon after, and the Gold Men were around waaaay after modern times.

Can't link, its in the necron codex. 'Though remnants have hung on in places. This could make for a interesting battle as the Necrons hunt down their hated foes. A battle between WFB lizard men and necron raiders.' Its not a exact quote but you get it. If they say it can happen in the dex then its official.

I have the Necron codex. I'm sure it said they were wiped out at some point, and the Necrons are now merely exterminating the species they created (Eldar, Humanity, Orks).

That actually refers to remnants of their creations (IE Slaan). Not the Old Ones themselves.

Pretty sure the Old Ones existed in the Webway. They were warp-based entities, weren't they? Hence the opposition to the C'tan.

See i kinda think there were a few scattered survivors, after all its pretty tough to wipe out *Everyone* from a race. It was just a though but do we know if the old one had a lifespan? Could scattered survivors still be walking the galaxy and being responsible for some of the newer races, and the gold men mythos? probably not the tau though since they arent psykers. Possible, maybe, unless someone produces text that says otherwise at which point i'll shut up.
But i think its possible, ah the beauty of open ended fluff, each person can have a slightly different take on the galaxy.

The old ones created all the 40k races except Necrons. And the necrons probably were in stasis when the gold men and stone men rose. And i am really not sure what the gold men were.
