This Is part of a very weird game I have been playing with some of my mates, tell me what you think. (this is not canon, not even vaugely and I know it.)
Classes of Grand Impirium star ships.
Dreadnought: Only one ship of this class exists, the Sigil Impiritor, or
Sign of the Emperor. this is the Imperial flag ship, mobil capitol, and home of the Emperor himself all in one. Constructed in the shape of a huge Aquila, it is bigger than some moons and rarely leaves deep space. When it does it invariably leaves entire fleets dead in its wake and whole planets smashed apart behind it. The ship is the most highly defended in the Imperial fleet and has at least one point defense las canon every ten square feet across the entire hull. Thousands of fighters are held in vast launch bays across its astounding armored expanse. Dry docks for ships of frigate class or smaller are built into its structure and facilities to dock larger imperial ships exist between the 'feathers' of its vast wings.
Battle ship: One hundred of these astoundingly powerful vessels accompany the Sigil Impiritor at all times, each of them easily the size of a full hive city and boasting enough armament to lay waist to the surface of a planet.
Cruiser : the Sigil Impiritor is followed by a further 10000 cruisers of various kinds they tend to be outfitted with a mix of long range guns and fighter bays.
Frigate: A million frigates are also part of the sigils fleet. These are small vessels and usually have medium range armament as their weapon fit.
Gunship: each gunship is fitted with a single lance weapon and four fighters to serve as a close defense squadron, they are the smallest of independent military ships in the Impirium and one hundred million of them are part of the grand fleet of the Emperor that is the permanent escort of the Sigil Impiritor.
So...this is BFG gothic fluff? Like the Emperor's personal fleet? Seems pretty awesome. Keep in mind there's still the...was it Dictator? It's a battleship that consists of two massive power claws and a drill. It grabs other ships, and drills them to ****e. Now that's crazy. That Sigil Imperator ship seems pretty cool. Like a 40k Death Star.
Ah, we can but dream. One problem - pretty sure lance weaponry is available to the Eldar specifically. So a Imperial fighter with a lance weapon is a no-go, to my knowledge. If this is incorrect, my apologies, since it's the only visible flaw - given that this is of course all wild speculation. Nothing wrong with a bit of wild speculation.
on a side note imagine the devastion a fleet like these would cause when it entered an Imperial system just from the amount of resources to keep the crews alive. stripping whole planets virtually, very dark, very 40k.
IIRC, there already is an imperial Flagship. The Emperors Reach, the only surviving Dreadnought. Also, this fleet seems a bit...vast. I mean, in the complete Gothic War were only around a dozen imperial Battleships involved and a million frigates? Okay, the empire is huge and powerful but i doubt it can field such a force, with the other sector fleets still around.
Yes, the Sigil Impiritor is kindof a 40k death star, but no big laser. Just lots and lots and lots of nuke level ordinace.Originally Posted by ze_poodle
the lance isnt on the fighters but the ship that carrys them. Its small, only half a mile long, so it neads to be able to damage much biger ships. Lance weapons are perfect for that, but it can't carry that and other ordinace so all it has is the lance and point defense fighters.Remember, this is not 40k as you would recognise it. The Emperor himself is the grand Admiral of this fleet, he is actualy abord the Sigil Impiritor. More over in this version the Impirium has a peace treaty with the eldar and tau. So yea, thay have buku more ships. Has anyone recognised the patern of numbers yet?Originally Posted by Kelnor
if the emperor is alive and leading this ship then there is probably no chaos around, and the imperium has never been allied with eldar or even very good friends. also if emperors is leading the fleet it means its pre heresy and also means that tau arnt around at the minute
but other than that great fleet
Remeber men, we are fighting for the ladies honour, which is a damsite more than she did
Sorry mate, was a hard day and i seem to have problems with reading texts correctly today. Do the Sector Fleets exist in your version of the wh40k universe or is the entire Navy concentrated in one giant fleet?Remember, this is not 40k as you would recognise it. a litle of both, the sector fleets are still there but they are more geared toward defense. This fleet is the BFG equivilent of a B.F.G. overkill is its primary mision statement.
If say abidon were to launch another cursade the gothic fleet would call for help and hold him off as long as they could while the Imperial fleet got there, then abidon dies.
no offense, but that seems mildly... well, retarded, every good tactican knows not to put every last resource available into something so large, additionally this fleet is too large, thats like over 1 billion personnel, maybe more, in 1 fleet, that many people for a single fleet that does nothing but sit in one place. And if the sigil impiritor is so large and powerful, why does it even need that large of a defense fleet, you said it yourself, it leaves entire fleets and planets destroyed in its wake, if it has that kind of strength why bother leaving such a large and expensive fleet behind......????? It would be far more prudent to send those ships elsewhere where they are really needed, than to keep it around doing absolutely nothing in the middle of nowhere after so much has been spent of it, I mean, i can understand a defense fleet, but not one that big.......
Also if it is big enough to hold a battleship in between the "feathers" of the wings then its gotta be much bigger than some moons, an imperial battleship is the size of an executor class super star destroyer, which if memeory serves is quite a few kilometres long, about 7 i think....
An Imperial Super Star Destroyer is 12,8km long.
