I have read fluff where the Macharian Heresy is alluded to, but never anything that was actually about it. If any of you can shed some light on what happened, or where I can find out for myself, I would greatly appreciate it.
i think this is right but i can't remember exactly,
there was a imperial guard commander called lord commander solar macharius. he was the greatest guardsman ever he was a tatical genius and the only guardsman to have the honour of going to the eternal gate which behind it is the golden throne. he led an army across the stars to conquer new planets which is why there is the macharian sector. but when he reached near the end of his campaign his gaurdsmen decided not to fight and that was heresy and so he went on alone with the few loyal gaurdsmen and ended up getting killed and he wouldnt have done if his men went with him but it was called heresy and so it was the macharian heresy. i think thats what it is anyway i might be wrong though
Remeber men, we are fighting for the ladies honour, which is a damsite more than she did
It was a little different. Lord Commander Solar Macharius rose to power shortly after the Age of Apostasy. He launched a campaign that conquered over a thousand worlds in the Segmentum Pacificus. At the far western edge of the galaxym where even the Astronomicon is weak and close to qease function, his generals rebelled and turned back. Macharius accepted their opinion and brought them back to Macharia (in the Cadia System) where his campaign started. After a few years he died as a broken man.
Yes and no. Macharius was an amazing general who conquered more planets in less time than any other person. And when he reached the far western edge everyone else wanted to go back and he reluctantly agreed and returned to Macharia a broken man. The Macharian Heresy however didn't occur until after Macharius died. Once he died many of the worlds that he had conquered renounced their oaths and seceded from the Imperium.

The whole history of Solar Macharius is based very closely on the story of Alexander the Great.
Tactical and Strategic genius.
Extremely fast campaigner.
Was stopped at the extreme of the known world (in the sense of the mapped area) by his generals saying, basically "Enough is enough, lets go home for a booze-up".
Died young (Alexander at 33, I am pretty sure Macharius died soon after he returned as well).
Complete break up of Alexander's Empire/Macharius' sector following his death. Eventually reclaimed, but slowly and with many revolts and insurrections.
