No, not licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. How many Tyranids would it take to completely wipe the Imperium off the face of the galaxy? Answer: I don't know, but there's more than enough.
Well, depends how fast you want to do it. Are they going to attack one planet at a time? Or attack from multiple directions? There's a big difference. If you had 10^12 gaunts tha'd be enough for 1 planet at a time, but I'm not sure how many less you would need (because that's obviously overkill).
1. There isnt a force powerful enough to destroy the imperium. Sure, many races can defeat it, take control over planets or crush their armies, but not even a tyranid horde, numbring countless hive ships would be able to take every world, to beat every orbital defence and to take down all plantery and imperial gaurd forces, Not mentioning the terrible force of, lets say, a Space Marine Legion being reformed due to crisis and fighting togather.
The only thing that could work is a Horus style raid on Terra itself, breaking the building from it's foundation. Bur, if horus and 9 traitor Legions couldn't do it, who are the Tyranids that think they can?
2. This topic is neither General nor Off topic, and should be moved to WH40K Fluff...
I agree. Thread moved.Originally Posted by akodo one-eye

It's possible. Apparently the 'nids have wiped out other entire galaxies. Definately the one they are from. And since hive fleet behemoth took out the imperial navy and nearly wiped out the ultramarines, if the entire tyranid race from their own galaxy decided to invade, it would be over for the imperium. But...that'll never happen.
Neither the Ultramarines nor the Imperial Navy were wiped out by the Nids. The Ultramarines lost their first company and some of their fleet strength and the Navy lost a few ships, compared to its overall number.
actually the imperial navy lost nearly 2 complete battlefleets during the battle for macragge and the UM a lot more than just the first company, their entire fleet was nearly destroyed, not to mention that countless lives of guardsmen where killed.
Tyranids are the race to destroy all, the imperium can't focus all of it's forces on one foe and that the reason why the can't stop the nids, they can stall them, buy time, but that is the only thing they can do.
Even the stalling of Leviathan by letting them and the orks fight each other is probaly the biggest mistake they could have made.
And how many Battlefleets are there in the Navy? 10? 1000? A million? And Guardsmen aren't that big losses, there are plenty more were these ones came from. The Ultramarines are one chapter out of a thousand, i can't see the hard losses of the Imperium there.
The Tyranids are the force that can wipe the Imperium off the face of the universe. White Dwarf even said that if the Tyranids were unleashed on the Imperium that nothing could stop it. It would take a while and it would cost horrendus casulaties on both sides but the Tyranids number in the billion billion billions. Horus couldn't do it because the forces were fairly equally matched and all he had was the upper hand because he was on the offensive and some suprise. Any way go read WD 303 or 304. Can't remember cause I am at work right now and don't have my WDs with me. I will check and post back with a quote and a page number.Originally Posted by akodo one-eye

The Nids cant Win because GW will not let them. If that wasnt the case the Imperium would have been crushed in a Ork Wargh! already, or the C'Tan would have went straight to earth themselves to finish of the emperor of man: The Fifth Chaos God!
Think of it this way: The Primarchs were monsters, not human at all, even before chaos currupted him Magus the red was a one eyed giant, made with the empereors DNA, I cant remeber exactly what some of the other primarchs were but I know others were quite differnt. The Emperor was alive for 1000s of years, probly millions even before the golden thrown was built. Chaos is to interested in him with scattering the primarchs and all.
The only 2 of the C'tan have awoken, 1 of the 2 sleeping ones is on Mars, when it wakes up the Imperium will end, just a short trip to earth and the golden throne, then no more warp-beacon. Then its all a waiting game until every last human world can be eaten, by well everything else.
If the Chaos Primarchs got off their arses and did something they would wipe out everything guarding the Eye of Terror entrance. Then all of the Legions could just whipe out everything because remember They are Space Marines, but better & out number the space marines by alot.
But this will never happen, well atleast not anymore. If GW was not all make it little kid freindly insane it could be cool if soemthing defeated the emperor and it changed the way the imperium worked.
