My second attempt at coming up with some fluff for my IG regiment. C&C welcomed and appreciated.
1337th Arkadian Infantry Division a.k.a. the "Urban Elite"
Homeworld: Arkadia Prime
Homeworld Info: Arkadia Prime is the largest of three planets in the Arkadia system. The planet is a night world, much like Mordia, which means that one side of the planet is constantly exposed to the system's central star Arkade, while the other side is bathed in perpetual darkness. Arkadia, however, is located much farther from its star than Mordia, and as such conditions on the night side of the planet are more suited to human habitation. The sprawling metropolis of Midway, the planet's capital city, covers nearly half of Arkadia's inhabitable land area, while the rest of the population is located in several smaller settlements scattered across the night side of the planet. The primary source of wealth for Arkadia Prime is the mining of heavy, radioactvie metals that are present in vast quantities on the day side of the planet. Due to its constant exposure to the heat and radiation of the star Arkade, the day side of the planet is rife with these elements. However, the same radiation that creates these lucrative elements also makes mining them extremely dangerous, and as such only highly trained teams eqipped with special radiation shielding are able to harvest them.
Founded: 790.M39, shortly after the Siege of Midway by the forces of Chaos
Purpose/Specialization: Urban Occupation and Defense
Regimental Colours: Dark blue, red, and black
Regimental Motto: "Discipline is the most powerful weapon we possess."
Prefered Special Weapon: Plasma Gun/Grenade Launcher
Prefered Heavy Weapon: Missile Launcher
History & Information:
In late 789.M39, the planet of Arkadia was attacked by a relatively large force of Black Legion Chaos Space Marines. The invasion lasted for several months, with nearly all of the smaller settlements destroyed by the forces of Chaos. The final battle of the invasion took place at the planet's capital city Midway. The Siege of Midway lasted for 45 gruelling days and, though the forces of Chaos were repelled, left the city largely in ruin. Fearing the return of the Black Legion, several new regiments were founded shortly after the end of the Siege of Midway, and among them was the 1337th Arkadian Infantry Division. The brainchild of Lieutenant Simon Winchester, an officer of the 127th Arkadian Volunteers who recieved countless honours in the Siege of Midway, the 1337th deviated from a standard regiment in several respects. Winchester, rather than wanting to command thousands of highly expendable troops, opted for a much smaller force that barely reached past the 1,000th man, though the regiment boasts that every one of its men is worth ten from any other regiment. The men of the 1337th are more well-equipped than any standard regiment. Since its founding, the regiment has abandoned the standard-issue flak armour in favor of the far superior carapace armour, and due to constant marksmanship training, it is said that even the basic troops of the 1337th are comparable to the elite Storm Troopers of other regiments. This, combined with the regiment's unwavering discipline, makes the 1337th Arkadian a poweful force to be reckoned with. This has also led to an air of superiority among the men of the 1337th, an as such they are often viewed by their fellow regiemnts with contempt.
The main purpose of the 1337th, as is revealed by their nickname of the "Urban Elite", is the seizure and defense of cities and other urban settlements. When in an offensive position, the regiment uses heavy artillery tanks and long-range explosive weaponry to pound the enemy from afar, using their elite Grenadiers as a defenseive sheild, while the rest of the troops use grav chutes to drop into the midst of the enemy forces and secure strategic points throughout the target settlement. When in a defensive position, the regiment uses its atillery to force the enemy to move into the setlement they are defending., where the carefully positioned troops can inflict massive casualties.

This is all very good, I can't find any holes to pick at.
My only slight gripe is the tactical analysis. It's difficult to imagine any army using elite troops as a defensive screen. I think grenadiers/stormtroopers are supposed to represent shock troops, as reflected by their lack of heavy weapons. Using them as attrition troops when their numbers are likely to be lower and more valuable than those of the enemy seems to me a fairly poor plan.

You stole one of my old quotes.
However, I do like the fluff but Mantis does have a point. I think this question may be a bit inciteful. "Why teach a kamakazi pilot how to land?" Catch our drift?
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
Ah, but look at it this way, 'Why use a MIG when we have F-18s available?'
I can find only one flaw with the fluff. It is not 'unlike' moridan to have the buildings on the night side, but rather 'just like' moridan.
Well, what I was trying to get at is that on Arkadia they have regular cities, and not HIVE cities like they have on Mordia. And also, about the Grenadiers thing, the reason I put them as defensive is because Grenadiers are not the same as Storm Troopers because they lack the ability to Deep Strike and Infiltrate. Taking that, and the fact that the entire rest of my regular infantry squads have Carapace Armour, Sharpshooters, and the ability to Deep Strike into account, it was the only thing I could think of using them for. Otherwise, they would just have to leave the tanks sitting their undefended.I can find only one flaw with the fluff. It is not 'unlike' moridan to have the buildings on the night side, but rather 'just like' moridan.

Why use 5 F-18s when you have 50 MiGs available?Originally Posted by Alexei Vor Yaruk

Did anyone else notice that his planet is "Arkadia". Just a quick movie fact, in the Scorpion King, The Rock's character was from Arkadia.
Just wondering if you did that on purpose?

Blood for the Blood God! Beer for the Bronze Keg!
I thought that that tied in with the city Midway, and the fact that they are the 'leet Arkadian Infantry Division'
