The Orks are the most numerous species in the galaxy, and control more worlds than even the Imperium, however the Orks are largely factionalized and spend most of their time fighting amongst themselves. Many Inquisitors of the Ordo Xenos and Imperial Genetors have repeatedly stated that if ever the Orks were to be unified as a race, no other force in the galaxy could hope to oppose them. Thankfully the temper of the Orkoids make that a virtual impossiblity. The Imperium's resources are already stretched thin, protecting over a million worlds from incursions from aliens and rebels, and for the most part the Imperium has had to suffice with merely defending their worlds from the predations of others, only occasionally building the zeal and resources needed to launch crusades. Even when Crusades are launched, they are usually focused on bringing human worlds back into the Emperor's light. Human kind has made very little headway against the Orkoids in the many thousands of years since contact was first made, although war as been constant humanity has almost always been on the defensive. Who can say how many human worlds have been consumed by the green tide, never to be recaptured?
The 2nd war of Armageddon provided a wakeup call for the High Lords of Terra. Although it was incomprehensible that the entire Orkoid race would unite, even one powerful and clever Warlord, such as Ghazhkull Mag Uruk Thraka, could pose a sizeable threat to the stability of the Imperium. Ork Waaaghs are an inevitability, and once on a planet the reproduction system of the Ork makes them very difficult to remove. And if many more Waaaghs were to hit sector lynchpins like Armageddon, even if such incursions always failed, the drain in Imperial resources would be unbearable. Because of this the High Lords determined that a dedicated force to aggressively combat the Ork menace was needed.
In addition to educating the High Lords of the true threat of the Orkoid race to the stability of the Imperium, the 2nd War of Armageddon taught humanity quite a lot about the Orkoids as a race and how to defeat them. Although the Orks were barbaric and blunt, their psychology was not too entirely different from that of a human, and was at least understandable enough to use it against them. Orks posessed a rudimentary concept of a warriors honor, and they revered powerful enemies as well as feared them. Also, orks proved to be a highly superstitious culture. The turning point of the 2nd Armageddon War came just before the Orks could storm Tartarus Hive, when Lord Dante and his Blood Angels staged a massive drop pod assault directly into the heart of the Ork horde an slaughtered nearly half their number before the Orks routed. Although the Orks have no concept of 'surrender', this was a very demoralizing thing for the Orks, and Orks on Armageddon spread rumors of "da blood boyz" and they feared the Blood Angels as much as an Ork can.
After witnessing the astounding success of the Blood Angels against the Waaagh of Ghazhkull, the High Lords commaned the founding of a new chapter of Adeptus Astartes which would be charged with taking offensive action against Orks all over the Imperium. This new chapter was to be called the Extipators, as thier job was to root out and exterminate any Orks they found. Although the Blood Angles had proven their worth, the High Lords were cautious about founding any new chapters with the Blood Angels' geneseed. Successive chapters of Blood Angels appeared to be becoming increasingly violent and uncontrolable, and chapters such as the Flesh Tearers and the Flesh Eaters had become downright cannibalistic. Rumors still persisted of chapters with the Blood Angels geneseed slaughtering innocent civilians in order to exsanguinate them in their secret rituals or even consume their flesh. Such rumors had lead to logistical difficulties as some Imperial commanders, such as Logan Grimnar of the Space Wolves, refused to fight along side such madmen. Even if such rumors were unfounded, the Black Rage was still under investigation by the Inquisitoin for chaos taint or heresy. Mixing Blood Angels geneseed with more stable geneseeds like that of Robute Guilliman was considered, but the incident of the Cursed Founding had taught the Imperium that mixing geneseed was very dangerous.
In the end it was decided that the new chapter would be made using the geneseed of Corax of the Raven Guard. Chapters with the geneseed of the Raven Guard had strong tendencies towards sudden and devestating assaults using jump packs, thunderhawks, and drop pods (which the Blood Angels had proved to be quite effective against the Orks). But also the Raven Guard and their successors have shown a talent for covert action and guerilla warfare, a skill that the finest tactical minds in the Imperium saw as extremely useful in persecuting wars against Orks. Also, the Raven Guards methods have been proven time and time again against Ork occupations. However, in the mind of the Orks, Space Marines in red power armor were more intimidating than other colors, and so the Extipators adopted a Blood Angel like color scheme for their armor. The majority of ther power armor is black, however their helmets, shoulder armor and backpacks are all deep red.
Soon after the chapter was founded, Warlord Ghazhkull Mag Uruk Thraka attacked Armageddon yet again. The construction of a Space Marine chapter is quite a long and difficult process, and the Extipators chapter was not yet ready to participate. Although the Extipators did not participate in the campaign, the 3rd War of Armageddon was very formative for them nonetheless. Five companies of the Raptors chapter participated, and their activities in the campaign were closely watched. Marines of the Extipators that had been chosen to form the upper echelons of power in the chapter, such as Chaplains and Captians, were sent as observers aboard ships of the Raptors chapter and recieved instruction on the Raptors unconventional tactics. During that campaign, many other chapters participated, and these select few of the Extipators had the opportunity to witness their strategies as well. Among these was the White Scars and their successors. Their lightning raids and counterattacks proved to be decisive against the Orks. The successes of the White Scars during this conflict lead to a nearly unprecedented event.
As members of newly found chapters have very little to no experience fighting the enemies of the Emperor, it is fairly common for Captains and other veterans of the parent chapter to be appointed Chapter Master of the new chapter. Therefore the Chapter Master is normally of the same geneseed as the newly founded chapter. The Raptors chapter had many capable warriors available to become Master of the Extipators, but the High Lords believed that the foundling chapter should be educated in the ways of the White Scars as well, to give them a variety of viable tactical options aginst the Orks. One particular veteran of the White Scars chapter, Brother Vachir, had shown himself to be a strong leader, an excellent Ork fighter, and yet also a clever and calculating tatician, knowing when to attack but also when to hold ground. It was decided that Brother Vachir would become the first Chapter Master of the Extipators, but that successive Chapter Masters would be found within the chapter.
Upon taking the lead of the Chapter, Master Vachir began to drill the Extipators in the ways of his chapter, teaching them to fire thier Bolters with one hand, using the pistol grip, and instilling them with the traditional White Scars doctrines of counter-attack. In addition, a veteran sergeant of the Crimson Fists chapter, Brother Territus, was brought in on a temporary basis to teach the Extipators about the hand to hand combat techniques of Orks and how to counter them. Amongst the ranks of the Extipators themselves, it was found that one particular Chaplain, Recclusiarch Kestrel, had a particular grasp of Raven Guard tactics as he learned them in the 3rd Armageddon War, and he began to drill them in hit and run attacks and guerilla warfare.
The Extipators first saw service in the Armageddon Sub Sector over 50 years at the end of the 3rd Armageddon War, and were charged by the High Lords with the liberation of Grancia, an agriworld conquered by Orks who enslaved the population. Originally the High Lords sent in the Extipators to liberate the world alone, and they saw this as their holy charge, that the intent of the Emperor was that they liberate this world alone. However, the High Lords saw Grancia as a testing ground, where they would learn if the Extipators were the effective Ork killers they had hoped they would be. Druing the campaign of Grancia, the Extipators lived up to and sometimes surpassed the High Lord's expectations. Satisfied the High Lords left the campaign to the sector commander, who immediately placed Imperial Guardsmen on the planet to retake the world. The Extipators saw this pirmarily as an insult of their abilites, and secondly they realised that with guardsmen on the planet, they would no longer be able to take the offensive as they were trained but were instead forced to construct their strategy around that of the Imperial Guard, and at times protect them. The chapter, frustrated at this turn of events, simply vanished from Grancia, leaving the guard to liberate the planet themselves. Chapter Master Vachir had a more ambitious goal in mind. Grancia was not a true test of their abilities, and he led his fleet into wilderness space, alone, seeking battle with the Orks.
The Extipators are primarily a codex chapter, but like the Raven Guard, they use their troops quite differently from other codex chapters. One major difference is in their use of Scouts. As usual, the 10th company is made entirely of scouts, however this company is divided further. A large number of scouts, perhaps as many as 40 or 50, are Veteran Scouts, Extipators who have shown particular skill at guerilla tactics and operating behind enemy lines. They most commonly form sniper squads and infiltrate near enemy ork camps, and during the night they snipe at Ork Nobs, Bosses, and wierdboyz to demoralize the orks, remove their ability to heal wounded and fix vehicles, and disrupt the orkoid command structure (which inevitably leads to infighting and more dead Orks), as well as conduct sabotage missions. Although these veteran scouts are still technically in the 10th company, these scouts are highly honored and skilled and treated with all of the reverence of members of the 1st company. Most of the other scouts in the 10th company are new recruits, always paired with a veteran seargeant. These scouts commonly follow the battle companies and take part in defensive actions, where they are used to counterattack. This is seen for the scouts more as a test of their mettle than an actual combat role, were the scouts will either learn how to defeat orks in hand to hand or die. Still, there is always one or two small squads of scout bikers, who run reconaissance and train to become Attack Bikers as the Extipators rarely use normal space marine bike units and instead choose to field Attack Bikers to destroy ork vehicles. The rest of the companies are structured according to the Codex Astartes. However, as is usual with both the Raven Guard and White Scars successor chapters, they remain a highly mobile force. Every command, tactical and devestator squad has its own transport. However, being such a young chapter, Terminator armor and Dreadnoughts are in very light supply, and the entire chapter has only 10 suits of Terminator Armor. Also, peculiar to the Extipators is their extensive use of flamers, as they never fail to clean the battlefield, ork camps, or breeding ares with burning promethium to ensure the orks are all very very dead and will not spore, or if they have to fall back they cleanse the battlefield with an orbital bombardment from above.
Once on campaign, the Extipators put their mobility to good use. Their combat doctrine consists of hit and run attacks, attacking where the foe is weak and falling back where they are strong, lightning raids behind enemy lines, sabotage, assassination, and guerilla warfare. To the Orks, fighting an enemy that wont stay put is horribly frustrating. By the time the Orks get themselves worked up for a good scrap, the Extipators have already faded away and are preparing a lightning raid on the weakest of the enemy. When the Extipators do decide to stay put, it is always on their terms. Having frustrated the Orks into a mad frenzy, the Orks tend to lose control of themselves and no longer exhibit the low cunning normally associated with their race. In a frenzy and itching for a fight so badly that they can no longer stand it, the Extipators will select an area where they can bottleneck the ork forces (such as a bridge or mountain pass) and will then fortify and invite the Orks to attack. Once the green tide has descended upon them, they open fire. The orks in front are trapped by the onrush of orks in the back, and between their firepower and orbital bombardment, followed by a drop pod assault, they break the back of the ork army and then procede to hunt them down.
The Extipators use the following Trait Advangatges: Suffer Not the Alien to Live (Orks), Trust Your Battle Brothers
They use the following Drawbacks: Aspire to Glory, We Stand Alone
Anyone have any questions, comments, things that I should change, or things that dont make sense?
This is an excellent piece of army fluff, very thoroughly written with many detailed descriptions. I can’t think of a single thing to correct; it seems that your knowledge of Imperial fluff is impeccable. Good job!
"Girls are nice and cuddly on the outside, and freaky on the inside." ~ Lost Nemesis.
I agree. Possibly the best Homemade Chapter I've yet to see.
"You're very interesting, and very perceptive. So interesting, and so perceptive, in fact, that we shall now fight with KNIVES!"
"I've been dead long before you were born, and I'll be dead long before you'll be dead!"
very good i like how you in a way showed how their background and different situations they have been in shape them as they are now.
wow i sound like my english teacher!
*applauds and points to Black Librarian's post*
Very good. I would also like to express congrats on a well written piece of fluff. No areas that were hard to believe, no waaay to powerful central character. I enjoyed it. Is this an actual army your building? If so keep us updated on the construction of the models, painting, etc. I for one would be interested.
Thanks a whole lot guys! I'm glad you all liked it.
Well, it as an army that I have been giving thought to constructing. As of now I'm in the middle of constructing a 3,500 pt Death Guard army, and I need to finish that first. Actually I think the fluff regarding my Death Guard army is pretty good too, I might post it up here soon for you to peruse. But I suspect that many of you are 'army monkeys' like me; I grab ahold of the next branch firmly before you let go of the last one. So far I have just been painting leftover models from the Tac squad box I used to convert Plague Marines from up to be Extipators.
I'd say that there are two things that are keeping me from just jumping into building this chapter, aside from my current committment to the Death Guard. First is that there are a lot of Space Marines out there already, and I already have a marine army although it is chaos. Second, I dont currently know any Ork players that would make a good game with such a dedicated anti-ork force. (The last one that I knew went insane and was committed, and while in he gave the army away to somebody I dont know... he's out now, but he's addicted to MMORPGs. Ork players, huh? :p ) But I'd love to construct a sizeable Extipators force and fight a long campaign against some Orks! Nobody I know seems interested in Orks, so i think probably Orks will be my next force, and then Extipators will be the 3rd so I can let other people play either army in a campaign.. Thats probably going to be a while though.
If anyone out there knows any Ork players and wants to use the Extipators.. feel free.

It's great, I would like to collect an army under this fluff.
Although I think you could have a better chapter name. Extipators makes me think of constipation and poo , don't ask me why it just does.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
