Have plateau and wide open valleys. This can force your enemy where you want them and gives you plenty of room for how you want your people to live. They can be gaurding a scared artifact/plane/group of research stations and need to be able to get from a central location to a different one very quickly. And each station has a contingent of foot soldier to buy time for the bikers to get there.

well, fists would be more regimental than those baldes are, so they might work better fluffwise. however, the baldes issued to every marine is a short combat knife, nothing worth being called a power weapon. every the Ultras get those, so it's no real worry.
also, you may want to buck the holy jihad stuff that's always implied when someone fields a chaplain, and take a commander or a librarian instead.

If you're nid fighting a lot though, have some heads up that they corrupt worlds horribly once they've been there. what kind of tyranid interest do we have here on planet?

I already have a Codicier w/ Might of Heroes as a part of my army and he's not going anywhere. ^_^

I do realize that the Tyranids corrupt worlds (like the world in the story on the GW website) but the 'Nids that are terrorizing this world are going to be my own army...so I'm free to create any type of fluff that I want.

I think that I'll have my main command come to the conclusion that the Tyranids attacking the world are interested in more than just eating, but they don't know what. Whatever it is, they have seen some of the strangest happenings - such as a swarm of Gaunts completely trash a small squad of vehicles, but walk right by a "station" or whatever I'll have...little settlements of people (though heavily fortified) without even seeming to notice there was food there. Another particular discovery is that the world didn't mutate or corrupt in the way most worlds do...however, the Tyranid force slowly conquering the planet is especially big, so it can't be just some random attack. The command believes that the 'Nids are there to maybe find something...what in all of the galaxy the Tyranids could want more than a quick and easy snack is completely beyond them.

I'll have a lot more fluff to throw in after I buy the 'Nid codex.

As honorable as that is, it also makes them idiots. On a game board, sure you do that. You can't just run off the board (unless you're doing some sort of continous campaign). But in "reality" you run.

And like I said, these are the Bike Squads from various armies that banded together. I do see your point though.
