what would be the military strength of a Rogue Trader Fleet? would it be fair to say that say an entire disgraced Space Marine Chapter might be combined with an Imperial Guard Regiment? or perhaps the broken remenants of a near extingushed Chapter?
Rogue Trader Fleets vary in size. The bigger ones have entire standing armies of soldiers of course. But rarely do they have space marines. If they were harboring a few disgraced marines they would be set upon by the Inquisition very quickly. But that would be the only possibility in my opinoin, and even then the marines wouldn't be very numerous. A few squads, no more. Near extingushed chapter's either go on a final crusade to kill themselves off in the name of the emperor, attempt to rebuild the chapter, or they are taken into other chapters. So are you planning on building a rougure trader army? You could use an Inquisitor model/rules for the rogue trader. I'm assuming your going to have guard/sm allies? It's plausible. But only in the numbers I mentioned.
According the fluff this is what is in typical Rouge Trader Fleet:
Rogue Traders do not take to the empty voids of space alone - each commands a small fleet, a contingent of warriors, settlers, and all manner of support personnel. With them go supplies to last for several years, vehicles, prefabricated research stations, housing, transport, weaponry, etc. A typical retinue would be an entire company of Space Marines (100 warriors) plus two companies of ordinary imperial troops all with the standard vehicles and auxiliary equipment.
They are always supposed to have Marines, but all Rouge Traders are old fluff so.
In the old Rogue Trader fluff the Imperium would just hand over Space Marines to any Rogue Trader with enough cash. The Rainbow Warrior's fluff (not sure if it's official but it's the only fluff that exists) even states that they where created specificly for a Rogue Trader as payment for the maps to a resource-rich system. An entire Marine chapter for a handful of planets. Not a bad deal if ya ask me. 'Course I seriously doubt this fluff is still valid. It's hard to beleive the current Imperium would be handing out Astartes in the state they're in.
i wasn't implying that a Rogue trader would be harbouring disgraced Marines but perhaps that a disgraced Chapter or remenants off might be attached to Rogue Trader Fleet as part of a penitent Crusade
embittered and disenhanted Space Marines would be well suited carving out distant new realms and not questioning the working of the Imperium
That would work. It's all very political. The Imperium gives the RT a Space Marine chapter in return for STCs and resources that he finds and tells the chapter it will redeem them in the eyes of the Emporer. The chapter gets thier absolution, the Imperium gets more swag, and the RT gets his own (temporary) SM chapter..everybody wins!
Yeah, I like that a lot too, sounds very believable.
perhaps an Imperial Guard Regiment that refused to carry out genocidial orders or saw something the Imperium doesn't want anyone else to know about (Tyranids/Daemons)
Not anymore. The Rainbow Warriors went the same way as their name-sake. The lovley guys and gals from the Ordo Hereticus got rid of them for some classified reason. Perhaps being a RT Chapter isn't all its cracked upto be. Heh, heh, heh.The Rainbow Warrior's fluff (not sure if it's official but it's the only fluff that exists) even states that they where created specificly for a Rogue Trader as payment for the maps to a resource-rich system.
RT fleets probably depend on the size and/or importance of the objective. I.E. if you're going to get some treasure then you won' get much, but if you're gonna go into an area of space to colonise/claim for the Imperium then you get a generous helping.
no the Rainbow Warriors weren't wiped out by the Ordo Heriticus theres just happens to be a picture of a sister of Battle killing a Rainbow Warrior Marine
anyone know of any specific Rogue Trader Fluff, names places?
