I need the aid of the fluff masters...
I just bought the Eye of Terror Codex coz I wanted the LatD list, and saw the thing in the back with the known forces of the campaign. Listed among the Imperial troops are some guys called the Templar Psykologica. Anyone know who they are? Their troops are listed as Augers, who I assume are some kind of future-tellers, and Disruption Squads, which sound kind of cool.
Are these guys some kind of army of battle-psykers? If so then I want an army of them... talk about your unique force.

Well, did you ever wonder how the imperium gets its intelligence? Each indivudal force collects and uses its own intel, but the Templar Psykologica are the wing of the Imperial military that gather data on enemy formations and numbers on a large scale. Their Augers are sanctioned trained psykers that use psychic amplification devices for things like remote viewing and 'farseeing' like the eldar use. I assume they also use the Imperial Tarot. Do you remember the ARX raid back in the Gothic war, where chaos was attacking remote imperial listening posts? Those listening posts are listening with the use of the Augers of the Templar Psykologica and maintained by the Ad Mech. Quite boring actually. Theyre not ground troops. They sit back away from the front and think all day. You wouldnt want an army of them.
The Disruption Squads are a different story however. These guys are like Psy Ops in our modern military. Their job is to disrupt enemy morale. Boosting imperial morale is a job for confessors and commissars. The disruption squads focus soley on enemy morale disruption. They do things like broadcasting messages on enemy radio frequencies telling them to go the wrong way or attack the wrong target, leading them into traps, organizing propaganda leaflet drops or writing propaganda graffiti, using the enemies fears against them (in the 3rd Armageddon War they spent time amplifying the Orks fear of Yarrick), or basically doing anything they can to confuse enemy intelligence and make enemy troops not want to fight so much anymore. I imagine the members of the Disruption Squads are recruited from the Schola Progenium. Although their job is a lot more interesting than the Augurs, they still dont fight on the battlefield. They may go on covert ops, but any fighting that they decide needs done, such as assassinations or morale raids, gets handed to actual combatants. The Disruption Squads move around from unit to unit and area to area where theyre needed, organizing attacks on enemy morale.
Sorry robotnik. No units battle psykers in the Imperium nowadays. You'll have to suffice yourself with the attached psykers and wyrds attached to Imperial Guard regiments. But apparently back in the days of the Great Crusade the Emperor herded psykers into units of battlepsykers, like the Ventracon Grey Prophets, and sent them into battle as a unit. I can see why Magnus the Red would be so upset that the Emperor forbit him and his legion to use sorcery when he was forming whole squads of normal human psykers.
Hey thanks, that's a very in depth answer. Most helpful.
So they are just psy-ops hey? Oh well. I'll just go back to my elite Navigator House army idea.
