@Grephaun Heh, I remember when I had Minotaurs with guns in my rogue trader army. Heck the first box of Eldar actually said "Space Elves" on it.

Yes yes, I remember the days of everything in fantasy being in 40k quite well. In fact, it really hasn't changed all that much except for the fact that they now have Necrons and Tau as non fantasy races.

well, if it took until the 30th milleniumj or there abouts for the emporer to appear/evolve, then by 140,000 there should have been atleast another one, making humanity powerful enough to take over the galaxy... if htis failed to happen, then the necrons would win, cause they are the only ones who can "live" forever on nothing...

It didn’t even take that long for the Emperor to appear; according to the old fluff he’s already been around now, in our time, for 10,000 years, making him some 50,000 years old in the 40k universe. However, according to the same fluff, the creation of the Emperor was not a random event, but a deliberate action performed by a lot of very potent psykers on Earth, who pooled all of their psychic powers into one individual and thereby created the Emperor from their combined souls. The question is whether anyone remains who knows how to do this and has the power to do so. For more information, read this article.

I agree with you, though, that Necrons might indeed be the last race left after the armageddon that all the other races seem to be driven towards. They already survived most of the galaxy being destroyed once, so they might do that again. As long as the stars remain for the Necrons to tap energy from, they’re able to survive indefinitely.

It would go like this; Humanities ( and pretty much every other race minus necrons) psykic potential would keep growing and so in turn would chaos until eventualy chaos wiped out everything but because the immatirium is dependent on phykers it would then cease to exist.
So were left with a big empty chaos schorched galaxy.

As far as GW would be concerned, I'm sure it would remain largely the same except with a whole new range of Codex and Models

Personally, though I may get called a goody goody optomist, I think the Imperium will be the big dog in the future. Despite the fact that it's not the golden age of the human race, the Imperium may be under constant attack but it still controls the majority of the galaxy, and eventually they will have neough power to take out their agressors one at a time... and that's before you even consider all the prophecies about the return of the Emperor or the surviving Primarches (Primarchs?).

In short, WE RULE!! hehe.

well i think that there have been quite a few primarches (non chaos ones) who have dissapeared and said they will be back lets see: Lion el' Johnsons taken away by the 'dark ones' and said to return, jaghatai khan, dissapeared into the mountains on his home world and said he would roam the warp and return once the emperor returns, ferrus mannus i believe he is currently on mars, roboute guilliman in a stasis field because he got a poisoned rapier in the throat from fulgrim waiting to be healed by the emperor when he returns, leman russ said he will return when it is the time of the wulfen and went off in the eye of terror, Vulkan said to be participating in the purges (salamander crusades) and the last one is Corax who ran out of the raven spire all wild eyed and said never more and went away into space.

So they could all possibly come back, same with the emperor it is said that he will be reborn and there is a secret society known as the Illuminati who have learnt that the emperor is going to reborn. (he sure is taking his damn time!)

Sorry, discredited fluff. The Illuminati no longer exists according to GW. Which is a pity, because it wasn't a bad idea. It gave too much of an illusion of finality to the whole thing.

Nah, In that space of time there woud be at least one ork with "anuf karizma" To make a huge WHAAAAAAAAG that will destroy all the other races (or at least maim them so much that they are reduced to small colonies with very primitive equipment) And the Orkz will forever be happy, combatting each other for all eternity.

Well, under the old fluff I'd assume that in a hundred thousand years theyd manage to have gotten a new emperor together and have managed to clear out a lot of the Orks and killed off the Tau and have completely the Emperor's great works and defeated the Chaos Gods and the Ctan and have a solid grasp on the galaxy.

But, now, minus all that star child stuff that GW just cleansed, I see a very different outcome for 40k.
Nids are going to eat the Tau, its going to take a while, but its going to happen. I dont think that the Nids can get through Ultramar though. Also there will be a lot of great battles between Nids and Orks. I think that the Ctan will have awakened, found things much too difficult for them, and will have gone back into hibernation. Either that or the Eldar will manipulate humanity into making large attacks agains the Necrons to distract them while the Eldar pull out some secret weapon and blast the Ctan to bits. Or Abaddon will realize what the Blackstones were for and combine them with the Planet Killer and will blast them to bits too. In the meantime though the Eldar will die out as well, maybe the last of them will die taking out the C'tan like they were created to. I think this massive battle against the C'tan is what this Ragnarok and Wolftime and the other "end of the world" myths are all about.

As for the Imperium, the Emperor will decay to the point that theyre going to put him in a stasis field to save his body. The Adeptus Custodes will have to do this in secret or it will start a galaxy wide civil war. The Astronomicon will be completely powered by captured psykers. If no apocalypse occurs in the meantime, the Imperium will crumble over its own weight, as the key planets of the Imperium like the hive worlds will all fall either due to ork agression or just plain old mismanagement. Already theyre being knocked off one by one. Eventually the Imperium will fall into the the same way of life they did before the age of the Imperium, and will have all the same success they did before and humanity will expand again. Maybe the Ad Mech will take over and duke it out with the broken Ecclesiarchy for dominance. That would be a fun war to watch

Either way, humanity is alive but the Imperium is fractured. Orks still there. Eldar dead. Tau dead. Nids halted. C'tan, dead or hiding. Chaos is neutralized.

Minotaurs and Trolls were still a reality as late on as the 2nd edition Chaos Codex. They were only phased out when GW wished to focus upon Chaos Space Marines in the next Codex.

Now we have big mutants in Lost and the Damned!

As you said little has changed, the good times are far from gone.
