Am I the only one that would LOVE a book about this guy? Explaining everythng that happened. There are so many theories and this and that, but nothing that we truly know. I know that his whole "thing" is being mysterious and stuff, but I'd love to know where he came from, what happened, what the sword is, where hes going, who is protecting him. Everything, he is such a interesting character, I want to know just How interesting!
He's coming for you...
ThT WOULD BE INSANE AS YOU CAN SEE I LOVE CYPHER AND WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THE WHOLE STORY ABOUT HIM AND FIND OUT WHAT REALLY HAPPENED THROUGH THAT SCREEN OF da MYTH AND mYSTERIOUSNESS.
"They shall all taste OBLIVION!,.....which tastes like Red Bull, which is disgusting."
Since GW said the sword he carries is supposed to be the... lion sword,(DA primarch sword)
it probably is. I think he was a captain of the dark angels or something before chaos.
It is entirely possible that he is Johnson himself. Luthor is out as he is dead (to my knowledge, I haven't checked this, so feel free to tell me otherwise. With a page reference if you do please), and none of the higher ranked DA from the time of the heresy are mentioned by name (that I know of) which leaves us with the Lion himself, or an as yet unknown.
Greetings from Planet X, I hope you enjoy your day.

Luther is not dead, he lives still and is imprisoned in the Tower of Angels (it is stated in the Dark Angels' Index Astartes article that he survived the destruction of Caliban, and in the book ’Angels of Darkness’ by Gav Thorpe it is claimed that Luther is still alive in the prisons of the Rock.)
It was rumoured in the old fluff that Lion El’Jonson is also located in the Tower of Angels, hidden by the Watchers in the Dark and slowly healing from the grievous wounds he received in his fight against Luther, but Games Workshop has been very quiet about the Lion’s whereabouts recently. The only mention is in the Dark Angels' Index Astartes article, where Luther is claimed to have stated that the Watchers in the Dark took Lion El’Jonson away, and that they will one day return him to forgive Luther his sins.
I suppose it is not impossible that Cypher is actually the Lion, although I do think that it is unlikely. First of all, I think it would be pretty difficult for a Primarch not to be recognised for what he is, especially by his own Legion, seeing as there are statues of him just about everywhere in the Imperium (and I bet some of them even look like him. ) Secondly, I find it strange that a Primarch returned from the dead (or wherever he went) would be avoiding his Legion and even fighting against his own Marines.
However, if Astelan from Angels of Darkness was actually telling the truth, that might be a reason why Lion El’Jonson, disguised as Cypher, is trying to reach the Golden Throne:
Highlight for spoiler: In ’Angels of Darkness’, Astelan, a captured Fallen Angel, claims that Lion El’Jonson is in fact not a hero, but an opportunist who deliberately kept his Legion away from Terra during the Horus Heresy to see who would win before choosing a side.
Perhaps he really is seeking redemption for his Legion and forgiveness for past sins, and is unwilling to face his descendents until he have acquired both.
One thing is for sure: Cypher is a very enigmatic character indeed, and I too would love a book with him as the main character to shed some light on the secrets of the Dark Angels.
