    Odrong da Big’s ‘Eadflingaz

Dere once wuz dis Warboss named Odrong,
What always wuz doin’ ‘is Boyz wrong,
If a Boy got too uppity,
    His ‘ead would go “spluppity!?,
And den Odrong would throw ‘is ‘ead real long!

    - Traditional Ork Chant

For as long as anyone in the Imperium can remember, the Orks have plagued the realm of Man with incessant fighting, invasions, and all around bad behavior. Powerful Ork lords have, time and again, proved to be some of the most challenging and resilient opponents the fighting men and women of the Imperium have had to face – names such as Ghazghkull and Nazdreg have become synonymous with the alien threat. In recent years, however, one more name has come to be added to that list: the name of Odrong the Big, Warboss of the great Waaagh! known as the ‘Eadflingaz.

Odrong gained his position amongst his tribe in rather traditional Orky fashion: by clobbering anyone who got in his way. Odrong, though, was a bit more ruthless about his ascension than other known Ork warlords; instead of just offing his opponents, he would ritualistically decapitate them, and then hold contests among his loyal minions to see who could fling their heads the furthest – this led not only to the inevitable naming of the ‘Eadflingaz Waaagh!, but also to a number of Orky rhymes, such as the one above. Those Orks who were the best head tossers were given positions of power by Odrong – which only made sense, since they were the biggest greenskins around next to the Warboss himself.

The ‘Eadflingaz Waaagh! was not seen as a particularly important threat until the Damocles Crusade began. Odrong’s forces were located in the Eastern Fringes at the time of the Imperial invasion of the Tau Empire, and it didn’t take him long to realize that the war would cause a great deal of chaos and confusion in the local area. To that end, he started offing the other local Warbosses, all the while gathering their forces under his control through threat of ’Eadflingin. As more and more groups of greenskins came under his control, he began to launch preliminary attacks against Tau and Imperial outposts – these were often highly mobile forces of Slugga Boyz mounted in Trukks and the like, meant more to disrupt communications and supplies than anything else.

While his advance forces were busy engaging both the Tau and Imperial armies, Odrong himself, along with the vast majority of his Boyz, mounted a massive campaign to take the sept world of Oa’laar. What he didn’t know, however, was that the Imperials were already present on the planet as well – what resulted was a massive three-way battle that eventually resulted in the destruction of most of the planet. The Warboss, after being cut off from support, even destroyed an entire detachment of Space Marines of the Ring Warriors Chapter by himself. Even though the planet was all but destroyed, Odrong viewed the campaign as an Ork victory, for he knew that all of the Ork spores released would grow into new greenskins that he could replenish his army with.

What Odrong didn’t know was that, deep beneath the surface of the planet that he now called “Waaagh-larr? an ancient presence stirred – the psychic residue of the slaughter on the surface and the growing presence of the Waaagh! awoke something beneath the surface that should not have been disturbed, for an ancient Necrontyr citadel lay buried there. What followed was years of endless slaughter and chaos, for neither the Necrons nor the Orks can ever truly be wiped out. Every once in a while, a Tau or Imperial fleet will arrive and try to take the planet back from Odrong, only to be repulsed either by his forces or a tide of metal monstrosities. The Imperium has even tried virus-bombing the planet to no avail – the Orks and Necrons continue to survive and to make war on each other and any other being foolish enough to set foot on their home.
