    Tyranids

I plan on doing a 'nid army, and the idea for the army is that the Soul of a pyker was reborn into the hive tyrant upon its psychic awakening. So the idea is that the Hive Tyrant knows that its race is a monstrosity, and uses it pyschic power to control the nids in its vanguard, seeking to destroy the hivemind. is this exceptable?

no. since you cant have tyranids trying to kill the hive mind.
I'll go out on a wild goose chase here if you don't mind.

Interesting concept, though i doubt that a single soul would be able to maintain individual control against the psycic might of the hive mind. Kinda messes with the whole concept of the nids.

I was thinking that it was an Alpha level Pysker (the really, REALLY powerful ones mentioned in BG that died the instant the Hive Tyrant gained its psychic awarness. ergo his soul being bound to the beast untill it dies.

Still wouldn't work, except maybe for a few minutes. The Hive Mind is, as far as we can tell, Alpha lvl psycher ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++... etc. And the Hive tyrants are not the main psycher in a tyranid force, just for the purposes of playing without norn queens. A Norn Queens foot would be about as big as two land raiders where one is touching the others back, and they are high enough level psychers that they direct the entire fight in a Solar System. This is why attacking the tyranid flagship works so well in the fluff, it disrupts the whole chain of command.

And if the psycher did manage to maintain control, he would just get killed by swarms of Genestealers while on the ship where they are born.

I don't think this is really feasable, because Hive Tyrants, while able to react to battlefield situations intelligently, cannot actually think for themselves. The Hive Mind is the Tyrants mind, if you will.

A hive tyranid has no really brain.. it's a giant consort mind, just a big sattelite dish which picks up signals and transmits them to others.

Thus, a hive tyrant can't be self aware.

Even a self aware genestealer makes more sense than that.

Hive tyrants don't gain psychic awareness.. they emerge, fully formed, as developed psychic beings when they are created on board the hive ships.

the tyranids sorta share the same mind really. so they are more or less aware of each other as well as themselves. think of the nids like soldiers you control in a strategy game, and you are the hive mind. its just that they dont have the same bond to the hive mind inbetween themselves.

dont the souls of alpha level psykers get eaten by the emperor in some way? i thought i read this today somewhere...
