Iz we on?... oh! We iz! Good, good ... uh .. wut waz we sayin'?.. Ohhh yeah! Right. Welkum, boyz and.. uh.. notboyz, to dis very speshul 'istory lesson with me, Gronk! Fer t'day, wer gunna be coverin' dat myshtery lot, dem grey 'unz. Y'know, da 'unz that like to fight dem tin cans.. dunno why, really.. anywayz.
As said, we're gunna talk 'bout dem grey 'unz. Not propa Orks, I say; dey aren't green! De're grey! Not one Ork knowz why de're grey, really.. but dere is sum pop-u-lar miffology surroundin' 'em. We'ze all 'eard o' da Brain Boyz, see. Well, deze grey 'unz are s'posed t' be followers o' dem Brain Boyz; again, not propa Orks, 'cause dey don't even follow da propa Gork an' Mork!
Anywayz, as we waz sayin'; dey like to fight da tin cans, and dey follow da Brain Boyz. Da pop-u-lar theory as ta why de're grey is simple; dey ate some 'shrooms! But not jus' any normal 'shrooms; ohhhh no! Dey waz speshul 'shrooms, see. Onez that change da boyz on da inside, which den changes 'em on da outside. Dat's why de're grey an' not green like us propa's.
Dis speshul 'shroom waz appurentaly left behind by dem Brain Boyz on sum lil' planet. So when da first boyz ta get there waz killed or left, da spores dat dey left behind waz left near da 'shrooms. None of us knowz how da grey 'unz got ta be grey; some sayz that dey grown up an' eat da 'shrooms, an' otherz say that da spores waz mixed wit' da 'shrooms, making da grey 'unz.
Anywayz, whicheva way dey came t' be grey, dey came t' be grey! Not propa, I say. Wellz, grey or not grey, dey iz pretty powaful. Da smallest o' dere boyz is as big as sum of our bigger boyz! Krazytalk, I know, but I seen 'em wit' mah own eye. Promise! Dey as big an' mean an' strong as dem Goffz, an' dey know how to bring a fight. Not propa, but dey is fun to get inna brawlin' wit', heheh.
Da 'boss uv da group iz called Kronik. Now dat iz a big boy if you'n ever seen un, lemme tell you. 'Ez strong, an' big, an' 'ez greyest of 'em all! Not propa, I tell ya. Anywayz, 'e sayz 'ez been visited by da Brain Boyz in 'iz sleep, kinna like Ghazghkull (only Ghazghkull iz a propa Ork an' waz visited by da propa Gork 'n' Mork), an' 'e waz told dat da Orkz waz lost, see. Dat dey fergot dere mission.
So, Kronik an' dem grey 'unz got t' fightin' an' gettin' even stronger an' greyer. Not propa, see. When da tin canz came ta da 'verse, well, dat's when Kronik an' 'iz boyz packed up an' went after 'em whenever dey could. Datz da mission, I'm supposin'. Ta smack around a few tin canz while dey let the rest uv us propa boyz take the real fightin'. I don't argue wit' dat un, heheh. Jus' meanz more fun for da propa boyz.
Well, datz yer 'istory leshun fer t'day. Go on, beat it; Gronkz got betta thingz ta do wit' 'iz time than ta teach you lil' boyz and notboyz 'istory all day. Go an' fetch me some eatin'z!The Grey Orks
+++Transferring... Receiving Data...+++
None have discovered how this phenomenon came to be. The Grey Orks were first discovered on a remote planet in the system XVI-46 by an Imperial Guard regiment [name classified]. The planet, [name deleted], was later classified as a Necron Tomb World after the sudden apperance of the deathly quiet machines.
The initial reports by the regiment were that these Orks had contacted them and seemed to be far more intelligent (by our standards) than their typical green cousins. The Orks worked out a quick treaty with [name deleted], the command-in-chief of the Imperial forces present in the system, and they appeared to be there to aid our forces.
With the aid of these strange grey Orks, our forces were able to push the Necrons back until they vanished altogether. Thinking of only victory, the regiment lowered it's defenses; the fools. The last signal we received from them was one of distress; their Ork "allies" had turned on them, due to what some believe is to be boredom (a lack of anything to fight). They deserved their fate.
My inspiration for the Grey Orks developed from two things: the first was the Incredible Hulk. The Hulk and the Orks share a lot of common things; they are both big; both green; and they both get stronger with the more fighting/anger they experience or feel. So, I took this connection to the next level; in the comics, the Incredible Hulk, at one point or another, turned grey; this new and improved grey Hulk was stronger, tougher, meaner, and even a decent bit smarter than his green counterpart.
The next bit of inspiration for this army was the connection between the Old Ones and the Orks; how the Orks may have been designed by the Old Ones (almost definitely) to combat the Necrons. So, I wanted to bring this aspect of Ork "miffology" to the light and use them for this aspect. The following are plans for the actual army list:
- To represent the meaner, tougher, and stronger grey Orks, I will be using the Goffs variant Ork army list.
- I will have plenty of things such as Power Klaws, and hopefully a decent amount of AP2 and AP3 weaponry.
- My Warboss will be concentrated on taking out MEQ's in combat; he will be equipped with a Power Klaw and a 'Uge Choppa.
- I will have a squad of Lootas with looted Space Marine Devestator weapons; most probably Plasma Cannons for the AP2 and blast effects (as well as reasonable range), ensuring that even though most of the shots will miss, each one that hits will get a few hits in.
That is my basic army idea for now, and what I'll be theming my army around. Comments, suggestions, and criticism are all allowed, but please don't tell me to drop anything without giving me good reasons, and be kind when you do it. I don't want to start any flame wars. ^_^ Thanks!
I love the fluff, not so keen on the grey colour scheme, but it does make them stand out, which can't be a bad thing.
Anyway, I think keeping looted weapons to a minimum would be better, as these orks are probably quite self-reliant, and I think they would prefer using weapons that they had 'crafted' themselves, such as rokit launchas and zzap guns... But that's just me.
Perhaps you could look into the possibility of the orks beginning to copy the necron's strategies and 'customs' of war, becoming more like 'crons themselves (in the same way that Blood Axes become more like humans.)...
This (to me) suggests using Kans, Dreads and Mega/'Eavy Armour, as each individual Ork tries to make himself more necron-ish...
Just tossing a few ideas your way.

Sounds like a good idea to me, really. It also fits rather well with a quote I've seen elswhere in the fluff forum; I think it's something Grephaun said: the Orks are always the equal of their opponents. Meaning if you fight them with bows and arrows, they'll fight back with bows and arrows. You fight with guns and tanks, and they do the same, as seen in WHFB and WH40k.
I think I might have to change my initial idea for my Warboss to a Mega Armoured one ... just because it's awesome. I can also include a Painboss with Cyborks as another heavy-hitting squad, maybe..
Thanks for the comments. ^_^
i fell in luv with your fluff it remindes me of the blue orks im trying to make
