I didn't know this, but now I do, I thought I should share.

Know the eagle's wings on the chest of all the Adeptus Astartes? Well, they aren't actually eagle's wings, they are angel wings...in memory of the sacrifice that Sanguinius made fighting Horus.

    Quite cool

I disagree because in the artwork of the Horus heresy, the space Marine's have the double eagle on their gear and so does the emperor. For the history buffs out there, the spread eagle was the emblem of the Roman Empire, and the eagle and the double eagle were the emblems of the Holy Roman Empire, the single spread eagle later adopted by the nazis. The symbol of empire probably came to mind of the GW game designers and put that on.

The double-headed eagle emblem of the Empire is known as the Imperial Aquila. Just like catholics make the sign of the cross, devout Emperor worshippers make the sign of the aquila over their chest by crossing the hands over the chest, palms flat, thumbs linked, it kind of looks like the Aquila. Dunno if the emblem on the chest of Space Marines has anything to do with the Aquila, but it seemed appropriate, forgive me if I'm goin' off topic

regardless, it seems unlikely that this is the case. The simple explanation would be that the imagery simply looks cool.
