This is kinda an odd question, but do Blood Dragons from fantasy have an equivilant army in 40k? I ask because the fluff of Blood Dragons is by far the most interesting fluff in either game imo. That whole dark honour thing rocks. Anyone got any ideas? I'm thinking its probably Blood Angels but is there an army that comes closer to the mark?
Thanks in advance

I've been thinking actually. Do the Black Templars' Emperor's Champion still have the challenge rule? If so I could use those rules to represent a chaos renagade chapter. I think this could have the right feel. What do you guys think?
The actual, literal vampire counts equivallents are the necrons and the C'tan. But I think the blood angels work much better, the C'tan are a little too evolved to care about mortal concepts like honour.
Khorne berserkers do have martial pride.. it's not quite honour, but it comes close.
Do what you want, but the only thing I'd definately advise against at this stage is a direct 'port job.' Don't just suck blood dragons into 40k, instead, create something new and interesting based on the Blood Dragons fluff.

I would use their fluff, as mantis said, to make a cool and unique army. I'd use World Eaters or Blood Angels rules personally. And no, the Emperor's champion no longer has that rule. I beleive it was replaced by his blade being able to add +2 to his strength. Also, im very much against changing/adding rules in games. You could only do it in friendly games, and what's the point if your never going to test your skills as a general in a tourny? That's what friendly games should aspire to in my opinion, actual comps. But I have met some ppl who are content to just play friendly games. To each his own I suppose.
Speaking as one of those people who would be perfectly happy to just play friendly games all day, I say go for it if you wish to make additional rules. Of course, I really dislike Blood Dragons compared to the other Vampire bloodlines, but that's just me...
Anyway, back on topic. If you are going to be using Space Marines, you might want to look into some of the Codex Astartes Deviations found in the Space Marine codex. If they're going to be evil, then I would say the World Eaters are probably your best bet as honor is not really a concept that is emphasised by many of the alien races (except Orks, but they're anything but noble!). I like to think of Blood Dragons as knights of darkness, an honorable and tight-knit brotherhood, but totally dedicated to the cause of darkness, thus overturning the belief that evil inevitably turns upon itself. Such a force would be very dangerous...
Space marines would be your best bet (I actually went from space marines to blood dragons when I started fantasy). Between chaos, and the imperial guys you have a lot of options. You could make a nurgle based force for instance and have all the troop choice marines be zombies or skeletons or something like that if you want visual port as well. You could also do a lost and the damned force as well and take a horde of plague zombies led by an arch heretic, there's a lot of options out there.
I can read now!

To all the people who mentioned Khorne / WE, I just don't think they have the right feel to them. Hmmm. I think Flesh Tearers have a darker feel to them than Blood Angels. Or maybe the best answer is to just do a custom renegade chapter from Blood Angel geneseed. Thing is I don't want out and out crazy, I don't think that matches the style of the Blood Dragons.
After checking in a friend's vampire counts army book, I found the list at the back which says that Blood Dragons can take Black Knights as a core unit. Maybe a bike theme in 40k then? Maybe take ''Be swift as the wind'' and ''Death Before Dishonour'' as traits?
EDIT:Interesting thought. I'm not sure whether I just want a fluffy port or both a fluffy and visual port yet. I'll have to do some more thinkingOriginally Posted by jtm
EDIT (again): Btw, I've decided to go with the Black Templar idea, thanks to all who contributed
