Hey Iv been thinking about alot of fluff and i was wondering about other human nations from rebellions or by humans from planets that have not been retaken by the Imperium. like say a republic that has formed in the outer rims of the galaxy which has expanded and is now a power which is recognisable.
I have been considering starting an army based upon this
principle and i was wondering if u could give some advice, ideas and hints, so far this is what iv come up with, Its basically a nation formed from a warring world much like Terra where the different nations became 1 republic and has expanded rapidly also their symbol is the Hawk and they are not knowledgable of the xenos chaos Imperium and other things.
one question that comes to mind is how you would make such an army and i was hoping for some advice. another thought is that i also play Battlefleet gothic and i would wonder is how one would go about constructing a new fleet. these are just some thoughts iv come up with.

I would say, make it strong enough to withstand a Imperial expeditional fleet, but small enough to not be noticed by the watchful eye of the Imperium...
With the size of the Imperium, and hte galaxy, this is possible... Althrough, when you get some space marines in the neighbourhood, you're screwed...
It's possible, although they would have to keep themselves very much to themselves; they would be a set of undiscovered worlds from the Stellar Exodus though, which leaves some problems with technology; the Dark Age of Technology was after the Stellar Exodus, and so they may (unless you give a good reason for them to have lost it, which you more or less must if you want a playble army) have technology in excess of the current Imperium. Not Humanity's greatest technology (that was the Dark Age), but more powerful than that of the Age of the Imperium.
Hey Xerxes... That's really interesting... Where did you get that info?
Bits and pieces of pre-Imperial history are dotted around some Imperial publications... the biggest of which is the "Gold Men, Stone Men, Iron Men" chronology in the back of the 3rd edition rulebook.
If you have any info on the Golden Men/Stone Men/Iron Men or a place where i can find it (aside from warseer or relic forums) then i would be much obliged.
For a fleet and technology i might suggest modifying Tau tech because they seem very advanced and would probably be close to what the DAoT humans were.
I shall destroy all who stand in my way. The Emperor shall be reborn in me, the Primarchs shall be remade in me. I shall cast down the Dark Gods, the Star Gods shall be consumed just as they consumed their brothers. Those who fell shall be redeemed, those who remained pure shall be rewarded. The Imperium shall regain its power and the Dark Age of Technology will seem like nothing. For I am the Numen and I am coming
One thing that you would have to take into consideration is that Imperial weaponry and equipment would not be able to appear in your army. To solve this problem you could equip them with autogun looking weapons that look like modern day machine guns and simply use them as lasguns. Tanks, heavy weapons and vehicles would also have to be radically different in their appearance.
Also, commissars, sanctioned psykers and techpriests would be a no no.
Finally, uniforms would have to be very different than the usual ones.
Still, it sounds like a cool idea. One that would be very fun to do, but also expensive I'm afraid. And be prepared for the carnage that will take place once the Imperium learns of the existance of your Empire...
Good luck with it. Looking forward to seeing some minis.
Wikipedia has lots of background fluff on it, I suggest you head there.

A lot of imperial equipment is from the dark age of technology.. I don't think Tau are a good paradigm.
Land raiders and land speeders, for example, were not invented. They were dug out of the archives. They are dark age of technology vehicles already.
I would personally be wary of anything too special. Remember that societies do change and regress, especially in a place as violent as the Imperium. If you want them to have one or two strange holdovers, that's fine, but a fully dark age of technology army is a bit 'biggest and best.'
