In the old fluff, Genestealers were supposed to be creatures who hypnotised and implanted their DNA in humans, creating hybrids. These hybrids then formed cults on their own world, and before long the planet would be overrun with 'Stealers. Quite clearly the whole cult thing has been dropped, but are 'Stealers still supposed to implant humans with their DNA, or are they just ravening monsters now? 'Cause if so, the name Genestealer is no longer appropriate.
It's probably better that they dropped this fluff, because it was a blatant Alien ripoff, and the image of huge Stealers with razor sharp claws hypnotizing people, instead of tearing them to shreds just never really worked. It was a cool idea, but it just didn't fit.
Anyway, does anyone now how much (if any) of this fluff still applies?
ummm it all still applies, the 'stealers are the fore runners for the tyranid hive fleets so that is why they start the cults.

"I cast Lvl. 3 Eroticism. You turn into a real beautiful woman."
They're genestealers if you changed the name they would no longer be the genestealers we have come to know and love(in some cases Hate).
Besides they are the vanguard of the hive fleets so it all fits, and if everyone that ever saw them joined or died who are we to say its nto a lie
