I've been playing DA for a while now, they are my main army, and have given me a near pefect record only have one loss. I realize though that I know very little about them; i've read Angels of Darkness, great book if you havnt read it. But I dont know much about the Lion, or about Cypher, or much about Luther, the Heresy etc. What I mean is the main DA role in all of it and the characters. Supposedly Cypher was supposed to assassinate the emperor to fulfill his destiny?
What I am mainly asking is if you guys know anything I can read up on, by either searching the forums here or novels that GW/Black Library released. Thanks for the time.
Here is a great place for us dark angels is fortress of the unforgiven.
Also come to the Order of the white sword in the clubs and clans for some truly great dark angels stuff
The whole Cyper killing the Emperor thing was a tie-in to the old Star Child fluff that is now officially disavowed. Basically, the Emperor needs to be killed in order to rise as a warp entity and either defeat the chaos gods or be reborn again to lead humanity to victory over the galaxy. There were various other implications, involving the Emperor's children (not the SM, his actual kids), also immortal but sterile, called the Sensei. The idea was that the Sensei would be sacrificed at the moment of the Emperor's death in order to give the Emperor a boost in the Warp.
I'm more of the opinion that Cypher was headed to Terra to present the Lion Sword to the Emperor and ask for forgiveness and possibly reforge the sword (Sword-That-Was-Broken, anyone?).
The whole Cypher killing the Emperor thing was very convenient for GW in the sense that it does not necessarily have to tie in to the old fluff about the Star Child - it can stand on its own as one of the great mysteries of the 40K universe. However, I'm also more of the opinion that Cypher will draw the sword in the presence of the Emperor and it will be reforged, thus forgiving the Dark Angels and the Fallen. As with many other details about Cypher, we will probably never know, except if GW decides to do a campaign and he slips into the Imperial Palace during the confusion. He would definitely be able to and it would make for an interesting story. Hell, GW could write a whole book about Cypher if they wanted but that would kinda kill the mystery of it all....
I've tried to look into Cypher before, and trust me; not even the GW guys up top know what they're going to do with him. He's just the Conspiracy Theory card that they have up their sleeve in case they need a plot point in a hurry.
Player: So...why are Dark Angels fighting Imperial Guard?
Gav: Well, Cypher was secretly a Chaos mutant with evil telepathic werewolf powers that he absorbed from the 13th Company and is attempting to assassinate the Emperor so that the Chaos Gods will resurrect Lion El'Jonson. Or maybe he is Lion El'Jonson, only corrupted by Chaos powers, specifically Slaanesh. And now he is trying to attack Terra to get to the Golden Throne. While he's doing that, Abaddon will sneak away, the Orks will attack everything (also being controlled by Cypher) and the C'Tan will all be assassinated by the Tau, who are in league with a group of treacherous Ordo Xenos Inquisitors who want Cypher dead because the Lion Sword is actually a C'Tan Phase Sword, and the only weapon that can kill the Emperor.
Player: So...Cypher's a bad guy?
Gav: That's what you think. Ha. Ha. Ha.
And so on.
As for the actual fluff, check the Index Astartes article on them. It can be found in volume one, I believe.

Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
You play Dark Angels and you've never read extensive fluff? I don't even play Dark Angels yet, and I'm nearly obsessed with them!
Well, yes. Go to Wikipedia. It knows all. I has stuff about all of the First Founding legions, as well as some more popular later foundings. Check Index Astartes I for the Dark Angels article, but I don't think it has anything about Cypher in there... I think that was in a UK or Australian White Dwarf. But look up Cypher in the forums, and there is a link somewhere for his history and rules.
Lord Baal of the Ordo Sanguinius Clan
i dont even play anything, and i am obsessed to a dangerous limit.
praying to sanguinus in church is a BAD BAD THING!
I'll go out on a wild goose chase here if you don't mind.
Huh? Was that at me? Where/when did I say that? (sorry it's off topic)Originally Posted by zenarion
