We Know from the Space Wolf series that the Chapter has an alliance with House Belisarius of the Navis Nobilitae.
It has been postulated that they are the only ones who have a permanent alliance.

What I ask is that how come the other families have not done the same?

Another thing is that each Chapter have their own ships, but also need the Imperial Space Fleets help to get around.
Are the crew of the Chapter fleets provided by the Imperial Navy or are they serfs similar to the Soul Drinkers Chapter.

The crew of Space Marines fleets are taken from the staff within the Space Marine chapters themselves.

Space Marines operate wholly independant of the Imperium's Navy. The operations the Space Marines undertake warrant completely different tactics, ships, and crewmen.

Often the crewmen of especially large navies, such as the Ultramarines Fleet, are comprised of volunteers or initiates from worlds designated as protectorates for a given chapter. As such, if we looked at the Ultramarines, we'd find the vast majority of their crewmen from Ultramar, and many of them marines in training.

Remember that Space Marine craft are mainly huge transports, with massive forward armor and shielding but much less in the way of offensive weaponry than, say, an Imperial Battlecruiser.

Marine attachments can and do join Imperial Forces. So they hitched aboard an Imperial Cruiser. So what?

Okay so we have:

Space Wolves : serfs recruited from Fenris and more than likely other worlds as well. They may also be the nearest class available as the technophiles.

Soul Drinkers: Chapter Serfs whose families have served with the Chapter. Equivalent to IG and Imperial NAvy.

Ultramarines : Planetary defense and IGs

Just remembered that some ships need crews numbering about 5,000 so they may also shanghai Hive scum along the way....lol.

Any theories about the others?

How about the players for the other popular Chapters such as Dark Angels who reputedly have a Chapter ship. This behemoth would surely need thousands of crewmen.

P.S.
This :w this probably means happiness..

OK, the fluff from every codex explains all of your questions... The Dark Angels take recruits from various planets that they come across, the serfs are usually failed marines who didn't pass various tests to become full fledged marines.

The SWs have protectorates just like the Ultramarines, so I assume they could draw from them as well as the multitude of failed marines.

Anyways, I think this topic has been beat to death .

I would disagree my friend...

I don't like it especially when reading the Black Library books if the authors seem to ignore simple things like who navigates their ship.
In every book I've read either the navigator is one of the characteres described or virtually non-existent.

In Eye of Terror the would be Rogue Trader Maynard Rugolo couldn't leave the system without a navigator while Maxila in the Eisenhorn Trilogy only had servitors.

A servitor navigator? Does not compute, but if the Black Library states that Servitor Navigators along with Servitor Astropaths are available, then fine
Otherwise need more data.

The First Founding Chapters all have a sufficient Recruit base to put recruits into Battle Barges, Strike Craft, Thunderhawks etc.

As for the Second founding Chapters, most of them also have recruit bases as well where they also man there space bourne craft.

The most well manned craft are those of the Ultramarines as they are the only Chapter whom have the biggest territory as was setup by Primarch Robute Gulliman whom was not only a mighty warrior but also an awesome Industrialist, Politician and Diplomat.

As for the Dark Angels and other Chapters based upon Spacefaring monastaries they would also man them with Initiates and Failed marines.

But all in all, the IG Navy and the SpaceMarine Transports are in two entirely different worlds. For example a Imperator Class Battleship (the biggest in the Imperium) could quite easily out-gun a Space Marine Battle Barge, however this is not Space Marine tactics. They would launch thousands of Boarding Torpedos at the Battleship and effectivly do the same damage as, except from the inside with Terminators and Power Fists!
