I run the Armageddon Steel Legion and wanted some Ratling but I didn't like the models. Instead of using the "Space Hobbit" models GW has I am converting some female snipers. I know all humans have the same strength so I need a good reason why these ladies will have a lower strength.
I"M NOT USEING THAT THEY ARE WOMEN SO DONT EVEN MENTION IT!
Reason one: The snipers were hired from a plaint with a lower gravity, so when transferred to Armageddon they have more gravity to contend with hence making them weaker.
Reason two: Coming form relatively "clean" worlds the nuclear purging of Armageddon made them weak.
If you have a beeter idea please tell me thank you much.
If you do things right people wont be sure if you have done anything at all.
Given that a point of strength is the difference between normal human strength and superhuman strength, it's a difficult thing to work at all. Of the two, I'd say that reason 1 was the best, as it gives a reason for the serious muscular atrophy that would have to happen to decrease strength by one point.
And you don't need to limit them to women, it would be the same for any gender from their particular planet.
And they would be quite a bit taller than your average human, having less pulling them down while they grow. Not wonderful for being sneaky, but a modelling point to bear in mind.
Personally, I'd just use a special weapons sniper team instead. More explainable, and no less effective in game when you add and subtract the advantages and disadvantages.
Reason one does make more sense though if you're determined to stick with this idea. As Xerxes said, they'd be taller and thinner than normal humans, and their muscles would have to look atrophied.. I'm probably talking anorexic here, to justify the reduced strength in my mind. A three foot tall hobbit just doesn't have a lot of leverage.. to get a similar lack of leverage in a human frame you'd need to be subhumanly weak.
I personally like reason 2, the idea of sickly, constantly wheezing hardened veterans who want to do nothing more but get back to their homeworld before the Armaggedon atmosphere kills them has more appeal than 7 foot tall walking atrophied muscles.
"You're very interesting, and very perceptive. So interesting, and so perceptive, in fact, that we shall now fight with KNIVES!"
"I've been dead long before you were born, and I'll be dead long before you'll be dead!"
Certainly, unless the regiment's resources were depleted so they could not afford such things for a mere dozen snipers per company.
Mutants of some sort are always a good way to explain strengths/weaknesses, unless your regiment has a hard-line viewpoint on mutants.
In that case, though, they might not take well to weaklings who sicken in an atmosphere the rest of your army can fight easily in... so I'd just shoot 'em if I were a Commisar. Certainly they are not the only marksmen avaliable on all of Armageddon?
Ummmm, there's a good reason that the PT standards in the military are different between men and women..... They just aren't as strong on average. So being all adamant about saying that you won't use the "because they are women" approach is just a bit silly.
I haven't met a woman in my life that could keep up with me in a push up contest, even the girls in the Marines (Yes, I used to be stationed on a Marine base... ech). Just aint gonna happen.
If you doubt me, here's the linky's: Male Standards, Female Standards
Oh yeah, the reps that you do count for a score. Notice that males need 77 push ups to get 100% and females need a mere 50 push ups for 100%. I can do all 77 without stopping, whereas most females I know can't do 20 without stopping. Seriously. It's a valid reason.
Lastly, the reason that there's only one point of difference between superhuman strength and average strength in 40k is because they weren't very bright when they first made the game and they based it off of a base 6 system. It should be a base 10 system at the very least, and use d10's to more accurately represent the different races, but we all have to live with the sillyness of the rules...
Nope, because as he's pointed out, it's the scale of the difference which is significant. There's no way the average normal sized woman, let alone one whose undergone even basic physical training, is as weak as a 3 foot midget or a grot. You might as well be arguing that Catachans should have a higher strength score than Cadians because their muscles look bigger, or that one of the Inquisitor models should have a higher strength than another because he looks younger.Originally Posted by H0urg1ass
I don't mean this to sound so bad, but yeah, it's obvious to anyone that the average woman is slightly weaker than the average man, but this game is about massed battles, not individual achievement. It's not neccesary to express these fairly minor physical differences in rules, neither is such a level of detail possible under the current rules. In Inquisitor, yes, you can make it apparent that the average woman is slightly weaker than the average man, but if you're playing a 40k game with possibly hundreds of models on the field, having a different 'female' statline for humans would not only be too complex, it would also be a massive generalization which would provoke offence.Originally Posted by H0urgl1ass
But they didn't. Besides, apart from roleplayers, who has a D10?

Well catachans should be stronger...
PS I thought it was 52 pushups in 2 min?
You could just model them normally, you know, not the husky-@$$ Cadian build.
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
I saw something like this posted before and I believe the low grav is the best explination, in one stroke you solve all there problems, lower strength etc. And you can make up a plausable remidy for this abnormality. just my two cents tho:ninja:
FluffMaster on a mission to turn people to the Sisters of battle, yes folks it's all about SoB squads in Repressors with lots of flamer templates for the win.
