Aight...here's a short...possible backstory to my Tyranid brood...it's a bit different from the norm..
This brood has splintered from the main Tyranid fleet...and from some odd fluke when fighting against the Imperium (and large EMP goin off or some-such)...their connection to the Hive-Mind has been severed...and now they fight as a rogue element.
But, because they have been cut off from all other fleets, they have no way of patching up wounds, so they use scavenged 'tech from their enemies to repair wounds, change weapons, etc. So now, they are a strange fusing of technology and natural Tyranid biology.
So yeah...that's the backstory...
I don't think it's very likely. Firstly, the Tyranids DON'T get seperated. If they do, as in the case of the destruction of synapse creatures, they go completly feral. As far as the patching up wounds goes, all Tyranids can easily regenerate, and even a tiny brood is capable of restoring itself to a hive fleet again. That's a serious problem when it comes to the remenants of hive fleet behemoth. The tiny shreds that remained after Macragge are re-building. Tyranids are wholely biological, i'm having difficulty imagining any sort of machinery. They MIGHT develop biological counterparts to mechanical devices, but as they work with modified genetic material, i'm a little shakey on this point.
Tyranids could possibly include mechanical parts if they were say experimented upon and then escaped and thier demented creators are now one of them and mass producing more.
Think Resident evil meets Alien.
As far as how Tyranids use machines? Well the only way to know how any technology or anything for that matter is ever created is to understand how the creators think.
How do they come to a conclusion they need something and decide upon a solution.
Tyranids create what is called bio-tech or thier machines through forced evolution.
They are able to see weaknesses such as weak armour and then give birth to tougher critters.
Tyrant guard for example are supposed to of been created to counter anti-Tyranid doctrine. That doctrine being to kill the Hive tyrants and therefore deny the swarms critical synapse control. Italso says that the Imperium cannot confirm if Tyranid evolution takes place on a concious or subconcious level.
What is to be noted here is that Tyrant guard are biological machines like all Tyranids.
If you imagine that a creature such as a Hive tyrant can make intellegent decisions not because it has a personality and wisdom, though all Tyranids are quick learners, but because it is designed to be smart.
Like the machines in the Matrix films which have AI Tyranids are in a way programed to think how they do. Though obviously without distinct personallities.Tyranids could be described as an army of machines, robots that are made from biological materials.
You could say that a group was capture by Imperial Geneators, and you could say the Ordo Xenos authorised that type of experimentaion (though I'd doubt it) and you could even say that these creatures escaped into the galaxy, but the most likely outcome of these creatures running wild in the Imperium would mean that they'd be independent and unorganised. Wihtough the presence of a psynapse creature these things lose control and scatter. Now if you wanted to say the Imperial scientists that created them still have control over them you've got a group of heretics on your hands with pet aliens. Then you also have the possibility that if they are wiled they reject the wholly foriegn and unatural body parts they've been given, gnaw them off,and just let thier natural limbs grow back. For that matter there's no way of knowing if the 'nids completely alien bodies are even capable of interfacing with any of the machinery that exists in the Imperium.
I can't really say it's not possible, because we're talking about a universe in which psyber space-elves shoot magic fireballs at soul-eating metal aliens and giant acid spitting uber warriors with 2 hearts run around fighting star-gods, I'm just saying it's highly unlikely.
If the Hive Mind, which is more than likely thousands of light years away (Rumor has it that the Tyranids wiped out Andromeda before coming to the Milky Way, and they could have devoured other galaxies before it), can still fry any psyker trying to probe it, how would an electro-magnetic pulse permanently disrupt its connection to your brood? Psychic energy and electric energy are completely different.
And like a few others said, Tyranids have natural regeneration, and, unlike humans, eldar, or even the (sometimes) naturally adept orks, tyranids are not intelligent and cannot use machines. They are emtpy vessels, living engines of sinew and bone bred solely to eat our faces.
A good attempt at being different, but I'm sure you can come up with something sweet without twisting the lore like crazy.
