In the SW codex it states that all SW must survive the cup of the wulfen to overcome a curse
or something like that.It also says that a few never conquer it fully and in battle will explode in bestail rage.
So my question is the SW version of the mark of the Wulfen a physical thing? ie, does the marine physically change or does the marine just become extremly viscios?:ninja:
I smell a WYSIWYG question..
I'd say, at the least, paint the lords eyes a wierd colour or some other minor abnormality.. The mark of the wulfen basically turns the marine into a werewolf. Just look at the wulfen models for an example.
Physical changes are mentioned as part of the cup of the wulfen ritual. Those who don't manage to 'pull themselves together' at the end are the reason why normal humans don't often go near the fang. There are big scary wolfmen roaming around.
Also for fluff, does the normal SW transform in battle?
Into a beastman?
Well, all space wolves are slightly bestial anyway. They're big, hairy guys with fangs and heightened senses. Even normal space wolves are probably slightly animalistic.Originally Posted by SilverMane2
But they don't generally transform, no. That's what the whole 'cup of the wulfen' thing about, showing that they can subdue their animal side.
Some surely do though. Those wulfen in the 13th company army list did, after all, but I don't think the chapter is as tollerant as it used to be regarding their mutations.
However, the 13th company also has troops who have the curse of the wulfen but look like normal marines (with better close combat abilities) so it seems likely there are various intervening stages a marine will go to before he becomes a howling monster.
This is why I'd suggest something subtle like a change of eye or skin colour or a bit of extra hair (space wolves are pretty hairy anyway though) just to mark out a lord who is starting to get a bit wolfy.
i always thought Wulfen were still in control of their minds, they just rely much more heavily on instinct aswell.

I guess he's more interested in whether or not a Lord can do a whole werewolf metamorphis thing mid-battle. In which case, no. The Wulfen mutations are genetic and usually take at least a few months to manifest. He's not turning into a giant wolf so he can beat that super-power evil Chaos Lord anytime soon.

Mark of the Wulfen? Is that like the Eye of the Tiger? Kidding, but seriously, I was under the impression that the SW was either wulfen or not, I didn't think it was a transforming thing, and if it is, is this like the Space Wolf version of the Blood Angels' Red Thirst or Black Rage in a general way?

I read the Novel "Space wolf" not too long ago, and the full Wulfen change is a gradual thing. The cursed gibber and grow even more hairy and bestial. after a few weeks of confinement with the other newly implanted, all the aspiring Space wolves are dropped off on their own in the wilds of Fenris and told to make their way back to the Fang. Some simply succumb to the curse and become roving monsters.
All that to answer the question, no, a wolf lord does not suddenyl transform into a giant wolf-man, rather he simply loses control of the beast half that lies within the mind of every Space wolf and gives in to its fury. However, this does not mean he is doomed to become a wulfen, as he may be able to get a handle on it at a later date.
