As a beginner I could use some help on this but I thought I'd write this anyhoo. Give me some pointers but be gentle it's my first time......:unsure:
This is the story of my own devised chapter I call the Night Wolves. Their armour is Chaos Black, their gloves, knee- and elbowcaps and the trim of their shoulderguard are colored Blood Red, the eagles and wolves on their chest and shoulderguards are gold colored. Their eyes are yellow.
+++ Night Wolves History +++
Responding to an imminent Tyranid threat in the Gadoar-system the Space Wolves under the command of Logan Grimnar hurled themselves into battle to save Gadoar IV, home to the house of Visigar. This old noble house with direct links to the noble houses on Terra had achieved it's status as one of the most important non-Terran noble houses because they delivered important components for the production of the starships that helped the Emperor of Mankind to reastablish the rule of mankind in the Galaxy.
Even though the importance of the production by the Noble House of Visigar has dwindled somewhat over the years the house is still regarded with many egards. And when the Administorium heard that the Gadoar-system had been infiltrated by a part of a Tyranid Fleet it sent the mighty Space Wolves the message to go out there and smite the Xenos before the House of Visigar was destroyed.
Once in system the Wolves, helped with a ten thousand men strong Imperial Guard from the noble house itself attacked the Tyranids with the utmost force. But the Tyranids had numbers on their side and soon the entire system was overrun by the Xenos. Only Gadoar IV was still standing and the Wolves were making their last stand on the main continent, the Imperial Guard had all but been destroyed.
It appeared the Administorum had underestimated the threat and had mistakenly conveyed to the Space Wolves the idea that only one Company of Wolves would be enough to counter the threat.
Now on Gadoar IV the Wolves had called for the rest of the Chapter to come to their rescue and together with the Noble family they holed themselves up in the Visigar Castle on top of the Dakbar mountain ridge overlooking the Red Sea.
But, the wait was to long and the invasion began before the newly called upon Space Wolves fleet had a chance to get close enough insystem. A group of Genestealers stormed the castle hide-put just before dawn. The remaining 64 Space Wolves and a few guards retreated to the well fortified ante-chamber of the House Lord Ganwar III, a young and able nobleman who had been trained in many ways of war as he was the leader of his Houses Imperial Guard.
After a gruesome fight from hallway to hallway and with Genestealers coming out of every nook and cranny the last stand was going to be made in the Lords chambers. The Wolves fought diligently but could not prevent the Genestealers from storming the room. And as the Wolf Guards let their prowess slip for one second a Genestealer jumped Grimnar. The force of the attack toppled the mighty warrior of his feet and left him vunerable for a few moments. But as the Genestealer prepared to strike it's finall blow Lord Ganwar pushed himself between the jaws of the Xenos and Grimnars face thus giving Grimnar a precious second to gather himself to destroy the Genestealer with a swipe from his mighty hammer,but not before the Lord Ganwar died.
The remaining Wolves managed to hold the fort long enough to give their reinforcements time to come and aid them in their struggle and after a hard battle the Tyranids were destroyed, leaving the Gadoar system in ruins and the noble house without a family leader or an Imperial Guard to protect what was left.
As all the people of the Gadoar system that were left were needed to rebuild the colonies, cities and hives Lord Ganwar IV, the young son of Lord Ganwar III, asked the Administorium for an Imperial Guard Regiment to ensure their protection. But to the Visigar family surprise Logan Grimnar came instead. He presented the noble house with the greatest gift a noble house could want, the Space Wolves Gene-Seed. The Administorium had decided, under some pressure from Logan Grimnar of course, that the House of Visigar should be awarded a Space Marine chapter of their own for saving the life of the mighty Wolf Lord. And of course none better than the Space Wolves to give this precious gift. But the new Lord Ganwar IV insisted on a special agreement: Three members of the Noble family should hold command positions in the Chapter to ensure that the Chapter would always fight for the same goals as the House it represented.
Secretly this had more to do with the House growing disagreement with the dogmatic dictatorial style of government of the Administorium. The House wished for a more democratic style of governance where people would be free to choose their way of life without fear of being incarcerated by local governments. Especially the ways of the Inquisition bothered the noble house the most and it had been at odds with the Inquisition from day one. Members of the family secretly agreed that it was their objection to the Inquisition that was the result of the underplayed mobilisation to save their system which now lay in ruins.
Logan Grimnar agreed and left the Gene-Seed with a Wolf Priest at the Noble House and went home. The Visigar family took over a hundred years to form its first Company of Night Wolves. The family had chosen the name because their once beautiful system of planets had been turned to ruin, from day to night. And the Night Wolves would be there to protect the innocent from anything that lurked in the night.
The Night Wolves adhere to the Space Wolves codex in their anarchic organisation that is built on merit rather than hierarchy. The main difference is that with the Night Wolves the Wolf Lord is not the highest ranking officer but three members of the family are. A colonel, a major and a captain are chosen from the family at a young age when they are physically altered to handle battle situations. They are given extra organs similar to those of the Night Wolves but they do not get the Gene Seed. They train with their Wolf-brothers but are also trained and schooled at the families University to become outstanding members of the Noble House. Night Hunters and Night Claws (in reference to the Grey Hunters and Blood Claws of the Space Wolves) often refer to them as Brain Wolves, but never to their faces. They are respected warriors and have proven themselves in battle many times.
The Wolf Priest has the final word over any type of battle formation but he must always take the three family-commanders with them if the First Company is called into action. At this time there are three Companies at the ready and all are lead by a Noble family member.
The Night Wolves have not yet suffered from the Space Wolf Wulfen gene-abhorration, but this may change in the future as the Wolves get older. The older Night Wolves are called Night Fangs as a reference to the Long Fangs of the Space Wolves.
The Night Wolves prefer to fight in City surroundings as it usually brings them into the darker corners of battle where their accute senses and dark armour gives them an advantage over the enemy.
The Chapter is first and foremost a defender army of the Noble House and their will always be a company left behind on Gadoar IV. If the noble family travels to Terra or any other important Imperial planet it will always be escorted by at least half a company of Night Wolves.
The Night Guards and the Wolf Priest reside in the Noble house fortress as a personal body guard to the family. The other members of the Chapter reside in a giant Fortress at the foot of the mountain-range where the Noble-house fortress is located.
In battle against Tyranids the Night Guards will always fight more inspired to avenge the people of their system.

Sorry this is it for now.
What do you think?
Let me know!
I'm sure you're allowed to make up a chapter derived from any of the loyalist legions. Space Wolves are still allowed to birth new chapters every time there is a new founding.
I couldn't find any plot holes in it so its solid fluff. To make it more unique I would start adding any special quirks they have before and after combat and any chapter-specific rituals they developed to deepen their complexicity.
Good job though.

Technically, Space Wolves don't have any offshoots, but the fluff's sound regardless.

Come, sons of LO! Kneel before Poodle!
Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
First: Thanx for the positive response. I'm glad I finally penned down my thoughts! I hope my English is okay since it's not my native language. So apologies for any weird spellings or strange sayings. Xenos is me.
+++ Rituals and rules +++
Even though the Night Wolves adhere to the Space Wolves Codex for most of their rituals (simply because a Space Wolf Priest is basically in charge) they do have their own quirks and things.
Like Space Wolves, the Night Wolves enjoy fighting in packs at the forefront of the battle slashing with their powerswords and axes while under cover fire from the Night Fangs who leave the close quarter fighting to the young and restless. Night Hunters, the majority of the NW, will decide on the spot if a distant battle or close quarter is warranted. Sometimes they will choose not the smartest approach but they will follow their instincts. Each pack is lead by a Night Guard and it is up to this pack leader to decide the form of battle and it is very dependent on the personal feeling of a pack leader. Some are headstrong and will throw themselves into battle without hesitation, other pack leaders will choose to attack more silently or from a distance.
Scouts: Differing from the Space Wolves is the fact that the Night Wolves scout are young initiates and not old veterans. The scouts are chosen from those who volunteer themselves to join the Night Wolves. They do this by fileing a formal request at the Visigar royal family. Once a year if a young man is chosen to go through the trials he is picked up by a noble house shuttle together with other volunteers and they are delivered to the Night Wolves fortress stronghold at the bottom of the mountain ridge which houses the Visigars family Castle. The volunteers arrive in the middle of the night and are lead in through the black gates of the castle and taken to the main hallway where in the complete darkness they are told to kneel in the middle of the hall. It is so dark in the hallway that normal men cannot see, they can only hear the sound of the Night Wolves surrounding them. Sometimes yellow eyes will light up in the darkness and the initiates are usually scared out of their minds. After an hour of silence the entire company of Night Wolves will start howling like wolves at the moon and they will prod and prick the initiates with wooden spears and specially made wooden claws. The initiates dont know where the attacks will come from and total disoriantation is not unusuall. As time crawls on the attacks with the wooden spears and claws become more violent and it is not uncommon that initiates lose teeth or break bones during this ritual. Teh initiates will become more and more panicky as the howling and the attacks reach a climax after what must seem a lifetime but is in reality no more than three hours. Slowly dim lights flicker on around the massive hallway and as the initiates are told to sit kneeling on the floor they will slowly see the shapes and forms of the hundreds of massive Night Wolves around them as more and more lights flick on. The room never really becomes light but the darkness has made the eyes of the initiates sensitive to any form of light.
Out of the group of Night Wolves will step five Night Wolves in Terminator armour, four of them are Night Guards and the middle one is the Night Wolf captain. They usually inspire terror in the initiate simply by being so enormous and intimidating. Next, the Space Wolf Priest will step out of the darker back of the room into the light in the middle of the room and he will stare at them in the mean time probing their minds. On the other side of the room three human officers will step into the middle of the hallway also silently. The Night Wolf captain (also known as a Wolf Lord or Battle Leader) will then ask the initiates the following question: You must chose from one of the four directions of the compass and your choice will decide what your future amongst us will be. To the north are we, the Night Guard, to the East, the Wolf Priest, to the West, our Noble family commanders, and to the south, the black gate. Choose wisely, for it will decide what will happen for the rest of your existence.
Hesitantly the young men will stand up and shuffle to a direction. Those that choose the black gate must leave and may never come back again. Those that choose the wolf priest are then tested for paranormal abilities and if they posses even the faintest raw ability will be trained as a Rune Priest, Tech Priest or Wolf Priest, but most are sent home or to the Noble family to work as psykers. Those who choose the Night Guard will enter the scout programme to become full-fledged Night Wolves if they complete the harrowing training and gene-seed operations. Those that chose the Noble family commanders are accepted as servant to the family and as workers in the Night Wolves fortress. No initiate knows what his choice will do but he is not allowed to come back on it when he has chosen and must accept his fate.
Other rituals: The Night Wolves are powerful strong men who are well in contact with the beast inside them and therefore are never afraid of a fight and instill much fear in enemies simply by their barbarian-like appearance. Their strong arms ennable them to have True Grit.
The Night Wolves adhere to Imperial religion in that they recognize the Emperor as a God but they are not pious and their anarchic organisation leaves little time for praying and more time for great meetings in the central hall where ale is drunk and battle-stories are swapped. Only priests tend to be more seclusive and are in constant ritual praying.
Local religious habits are not pervasive and only the Noble house's adversaty(?) with the Imperial Inquisition is passed on to the Night Wolves.
The Noble house has declared that the Night Wolves will never participate in crusades against civilians nor will they ever partake in exterminating an entire planet to stop the spread of Chaos. The minimisation of Collaterol Damage stands at the forefront of every Night Wolves attack despite their lust for battle.
Other: Gadoar IV is a planet circled by two moon and is in orbit around two distant suns which makes the planet rather a dark place even during the day. Thanks to an enormous network of volcanos under the enormous red sea which spans over three thirds of the globe the temperature however is not like that of a badly sunlight planet. The magma under the sea colours the sea bright red and it's reflection gives the sky a perminent color uf sunset. There are no factories on Gadoar IV and it is mostly a sea-faring people that reside on the planet. The fishermen hunt the great fish that are consumed for their thick meat that protects them from the hot waters.
Gadoar V and Gadoar VI are closer to the twin suns and had a great agricultural society before the Tyranid invasion. Now those people that are left are moslty dependent on imported foods from elsewhere in the Imperium while they wait for the Terraformers to restore the planet.
Gadoar III is rich in minerals that can be used for making components needed to build starships and much of its industry has survived the Tyranid invasion even though the populace has been cut in half by the Xenos, but most of the production is automated anyhow.
Gadoar I, II and VII are used mostly inhabital and are used by the Night Wolves as training grounds.
+++ end for now +++
Next: Night Wolf Lords and their human commanders. Also Garwan IV, V and VI (current Visigar House lord)
Lord Ganwar IV, V, VI of course, not Garwan....duh
Hey its good fluff but if your scouts are like that then you cant really use the wolves codex. The SW scouts are veterans who like to stray away from the pack. Also Logan Grimnar uses the Axe of Moraki not a hammer. But its good fluff. What might be a cool idea instead of giving them a chapter, have Logan Grimnar leave some of the old wolves back to train normal people. Because just giving them 1 gene-seed is super super special. So a crap load to make a chapter is a little un-fluffy, but what ever its your fluff do what you want.:w00t:
These Brain-Wolves. They get the organ implants, but not the geneseed?
IIRC geneseed is a progenoid gland, that secrets hormones. These activate the other implanted organs. Without geneseed those organs are just extra meat.
I'll go out on a wild goose chase here if you don't mind.
Space Wolves don't have successors, and after the failed Wolf Brothers, I do believe it was decided that they would not have anymore.
But, the best way to go would be to use one of the Great Companies who have left the Fang in the past, and alter it to your fluff. Plenty of Great Companies haven't returned to Fenris, and so are pretty much wide open to fluff and personality of the player.

Cry Cheese, And Let Loose The Wraithlords And Templar!
The Space Wolves only have one "known"(official) successor as has been stated before. That said, GW has made it very clear that in this world record-keeping is shoddy at best due to a number of factors. There are an amazing number of SM chapters, IG regiments, planets, and individuals who have been lost in the shuffle. There is nothing stopping you from using the SW as the source of geneseed for your chapter. Just assume that they are one of those chapters whose paperwork regarding their origins has been misfiled. That's what I did with my "Wolves"; hate the color scheme, love the concept, so I have my Jade Wolves.
Yes, there are female marines and my Sunhawks will let you know in a major way.
