hey im tryen 2 find a name for my ultramarines chapter...
i need sumthing that is different to the basic ultramarines
iv got names for the characters and their home planet (Raltern)
i need a different name that still has "ultramarines" in it to fit in with the theme
they separated from the main army bcoz of heresy in the ranks... mainly with marneus calgar... the leader of the army, taltera alteaz, was the rightful heir to the Chapter master of the ultramarines. but it was kept secret from him... he found out, along with half the army, in 513.M41 and seperated after a power struggle. with him he took half of the chapters weapons and artifacts. they settled on raltern, only to be invaded by a force of tyranids equal to the strenght of Behemoth... the hive fleet was named: Ralternoth... but taltera knew of their coming and anhilated them in space with thanks to the black templars. and now they share a great friendship with a certain marshal of the Black Templars: Ianel...
they have thought together many times.
so yeh... theres more to it but thats just the basics... if any1 kan help out wit the name itd b great!!!
Ummm i dont want to be a jerk or flame but this could never happen. If they took half now your saying half of the weapons and artifacts then the rest of the Um would destroy them. I dont think there would be any Heresy in the Ranks of the UM they are the most strick with their marines so.... Maybe make it a chapter of your own like take one like the Storm Lords or something like that not a first founding
Oh and your black templars siding with Marines that TURNED FROM THEIR BROTHERS just screams heretic to me, and in a BT chant is says BURN THE HERETIC. So well i think those marines will be a little warm in their ceremite.
Yeah, I don't think that sounds very plausible. The UM's have no heresy in their ranks because every member who is inducted is inspected by Tigurius, Chief Librarian for any speck of doubt. The Space Marines don't have 'heirs' per say do they? If so, then how did Taltera Alteaz find out about the fact that he should be the chapter master?
I dunno, I don't mean to rain on your parade but I just don't buy it.
yeah i thought that. but i had to think of A rsn y they wouldnt be part of the main army.
hmm myabe i need a new idea. maybe they were lost thosand of years ago or sumthing. hmm... maybe sum1 could help out with this then... im not used to writing stuff about ultramarines. all the stuff i write is BT or Nurgle... so yeh any help would be good
Why do you want to write about UM?
You could just say they're a successor chapter. That would make it much easier to get some heretic aspects or other individualities. I had the same idea about some people wanting to create their own chapter because they're lost, but if you think about it for a while that's as plausible as the story about splitting the chapter...
Basically they will repaint their armour (at least partly) to form a new chapter --> The machine spirit would be very angry about that heresy.
They return lets say after a looong way through warp. They will return to their chapter or they will be killed for being heretics. No chapter would accept part of itself to return after some time steal the wargear and form a new chapter.
That's pretty much like a small horus heresy. Part of the army (in this case half of the companies, not half of the legions) decides to fall appart and steals half of the equipment of the SMs. Maybe you do not become a member of chaos, but you want to "steal" a lot of wargear and Marines to fight for a new purpose. They stop defending Ultramar and start to fight for any other planet or something like that.
Not exactly the same, but the same principle. I hope you do not get me wrong, that's why I tried to explain it so (confusingly) detailed.
It's the same thing for any situation of being lost.
Maybe just think about it for a while and you will get a new and maybe even better idea why your chapter was created by the High Lords of Terra.
Hope I could help and explain the existing problem or maybe even solve part of it...

ok the main reason i did this was because i wanted to find a name for my ultramarines that wasnt just the basic ie. ultramarines.
but i think i've fixed it all now... i was thinking that they were a part of the ultramarines but were thought lost in battle. now thousands of years later they are found on the planet raltern. but marneus calgar could not return them to the chapter due to numbers... therefore Marneus gave them the power to create a new sub-chapter as these marines were far too experenced to simply be cast aside. so they settled on raltern once again and defended from there...
does this sound more plausable?
and any help with the names would be great!!!
I think this story is more plausible than your former one about heresy within the ranks of the Ultramarines, but there is one problem still: Marneus Calgar, or any other Chapter Master for that matter, can't create a new Succesor Chapter all by himself; the creation of a new Chapter is done by the Adeptus Mechanicus at the order of the High Lords of Terra, and can't be influenced by the Marines themselves.
However, I think it would be possible to find a way around this problem. Say, if there happened to be an Ultramarines Successor Chapter that had recently suffered a great loss in battle and had been deprived of most of its HQ and Apothercaries; normally, such a Chapter could not survive, but then your Marines happened to show up and agreed to join this decimated Chapter; the Chapter would get a new HQ and apothecaries, and your Marines would basically get a Chapter of their own without the meddling of the High Lords of Terra.
As for names that has to do with the Ultramarines, I would suggest that since they all come from the group of planets collectively known as Ultramar, anything like '_____ of Ultramar' would be an appropriate name. Eagles of Ultramar?

hey thanks that really helps! hmm... now to think of something good...
how about "honour of ultramar" hmm... the story is easier now... but the name is still stressing me out
Names for your marines? If so then I believe Ultramarine names are Roman-esque.
