Well this is my first story I am posting, ever, so hope you enjoy. This is about my new Imperial Guard army, The Kekoan 22nd, The Ihe Droppers
“Ready… Go!” The clocked raced as the men of the Kekoan 22nd worked hard to get their gear on. 1 man stumbled and fell on his feet and was snickered at by the close standing onlookers. It was a drill, like many others, that the Kekoans practiced with. They had just been recently stationed to the Geryon base but have been called out 5 times in the past week. Twice they had to save Outpost Omega from almost certain destruction from the forces of the fallen eldar.
“Come on, pick it up, pick it up!” Other than the reject, is was awe inspiring watching them with their speed and grace, putting on their equipment. “Time!” yelled out a trooper, the others in the group stared at him and all let out a sigh of disappointment. The onlookers eyed the man with the stopwatch intently, waiting for the time. “Well Cpl. Kalea, once again you show these dogs up… 1 Minute 36 seconds, good job. Now all you others drop and give me 20 for each piece of equipment you don’t have on, as for you Kalea, strip and get ready to go again.”
The men of 2nd squad dropped and did their various amounts of push-ups. SSgt Ahi reset the watch and waited for the men to finish doing their push-ups, while making various comments about their mothers and such. He looked across the pavement to see the other squads of his platoon doing other various drills and practicing procdures. The light sound of hell-gun fire could be heard from across the way as Accruacy drills were being performed. Looking another direction he could see other troopers dressed in full battle gear, clad in their red armour, stripping down and cleaning their blue hellguns, checking grenades and their ammo-packs. A few where surrounded by tech-priests who were blessing the ancient yet potent plasma and melta weapons that the Kekoans were known to employ en masse. A low drone could be heared coming in from the west. As the noise grew louder, Ahi looked and grinned, their valkyries just arrived from orbit, completely fixed, and with a fresh paint job. “Ok men, Kalea’s in charge and she will make you all get under 1:40, understood?” “Yes, Sargeant” the men yelled back in unison, all short of breath from just completing their brief exertment of energy.
Ahi walked over towards the flight of Valks as the engines were dieing down. He could see that the gunships had been refitted with new hellstrike missles and the blue heavy bolters on the side made him proud. The Kekoan, other than their armour colour and choice of weapons, were known for begin one of the few regiments to actually have direct command of a full wing of valks. Normally, command would fall under the Imperial Navy, but the Navy managed to swallow its pride and allow the regiments of Kekoa to command the grand aircraft. Flight crews were already swarming the crafts and making checks on the before they took them into the hangars. The mechanics that were near to the lead craft and snapped to and make a quick salute.
“Carry on, Carry on, don’t let me impead on your work here.” “Yes, Sir” Ahi snapped to and saluted as the man came closer, now another man could be identified at his side, a commissar.
“Ah Sargeant Ahi, how are the drills coming,” returning they salute.
“They are going well sir, In fact Cpl. Kalea has made the record, 1:36 sir, a full 14 seconds better than the next best, Captain.”
“Well Sargeant, that is good news, very good news, I always expected great things out of Kalea.” Captain Kapena, Commander of the Kekoan 22nd regiment, was a tall, and built man, of mid 30’s. Clean shaven, he looked like the officers you see on recruiting posters. Out of all the Officers coming out of the training school on Kekoa, he displayed the most potential in tactical strategy. He was a man of discipline, and great fortitude. Most of all, he cared for the men under his command. It has been said before that Kapena would rather invade the eye of terror alone, rather than send his men into a perilous and suicidal mission. This is the thing that granted him the respect he command from the troops under his command.
Ahi looked at the commisar and spoke, “Commisar Ikaika, You sent a message to me about you and Captain Kapena needing to talk to me about something important.”
“Yes I did,” Ikaika spoke with a clear but accented low gothic, out of all the Kekoans, the commisar had the most ditinct accent of them all. The authority he exerted when speaking though was unmatched by anyone, that Ahi has met at least, “We needed to discuss to you about taking over the Storm Trooper squads. You seemed to have done a very great job with A platoon, but we figured that you would be able to make our eite fighters even more of a force on the battle field.”
Ahi was qute astonished with this news. Commander of the Karkin squads came with a commision also, and the rank of Kasrkin Commander. He had always wanted this position but he had grown to close the men of platoon A. “I am sorry Commisar and Cpt, but I have to decline, Believe me, if you asked me this before Medusa I probably would have accepted it, but the bond between me and the troops of platoon A is to strong to break, I am sorry.” Ahi gave a quick saluted and began to walk away when all of a sudden the klaxons began to blare.
Ahi quickly ran to his platoon and started to yell orders for everyone to lock and load. A servitor came over and handed a data-slate to SSgt Ahi and he read it quickly, It seems that Outpost Omega as fallen victim to an attack once again, but this time not eldar, it was a force unknown. Ahi hated it when he did not know who he was going into a battle against but he still gathered up the men and women of Alpha Platoon. In about 10 minutes that had all loaded into their respective valkyries. Servitors were pulling of fuel lines and were wheeling the last of the ammunition for the heavy bolters over to the gunships to be loaded. A box of frags were sitting in the valk and Ahi grabbed 2 and handed the box to the next person, each took a few and handed some down the line.
Ground controllers could be seen giving the go ahead and the pilots lifted the Valks of vertically. The downwash of the aircraft engines were quite loud and the distortion of vision could be seen from the heat. The the engines turned horizontally and the Valks headed towards Outpost Omega. Ahi switched his voxes frequency to the Naval line and listened to the chatter as they made their way towards the battle zone. The navy was observing the battle below and confirmed reports have come in the the Tau had fallen upon this base. Also, it seems that a good majority of Tau skimmers had been brought along, So the naval ship above had sent a flight of 6 off-ship marauder bombers. They were to meet us 15 minutes prior to arrival over the battlefield and drop their load upond the advancing enemy. Ahi looked back in the cabin, switching his vox back to his platoons frequency and said on word, “Tau” What came back were snide and vulgar remarks about their being xenos and such. Some checked their weapons, take out the ammo clip, and then putting it back in, hitting it a few time to make sure it’s all the way in. Some checked their grav-chute belts and buckles, making sure they were tightly fastened to their armour. The pilot came over tha vox,” 15 Minute, the Marauders are here, They are going in for an attack run!” The marauders could been seen right out the holds window, their bombs, with different sayings painted on them, were a whole world of hurt just waiting to happen. Then the sonic-boom of the marauders activating afterburners was deafening. Soon huge explosion were seen out of the pilots window, the marauders had done their dirty deed. “All right men, Doors open!” The 2 doors on the sides of the valks opened and the cabin had depressurissed. Everyone already had their rebreathers on and grav-chutes were on standby. Ahi stared at the red light, waiting for it to turn green.
Outpost omega was a forward base for the Geryon Airfield. The enemy was meant to be met and held here, rather than letting them get close to that valuable airbase. The battle could be seen directly below and the Valk gunship had already unleashed their deadly missles on the Tau tanks. The light turned green and the troopers started to pour out from both sides of the Valks. They dropped to the ground almost weightlessly and discarded their chuts as soon as they hit the ground. They had dropped right behind the tau, effectively surround them. Lasgun fire, Pulserifle, rockets, missle, heavy munitions, were all firing. It was like jumping into hell. Ahi found some cover behind some rock and began firing at the tau closest to him. Some of Apla came around him and they effectively created a concentrated firing point into one of the firewarrior squads. A few grenades were hurled out and explosion came after. Ahi charged from cover, running towards a low wall about 10 meters in front. The other followed and 2 were felled by precise pulse fire. Tau battlesuits were spotted and Ahi had the plasma gunner come forward. The Plaser line the sight and fired, breaking into the battlesuit and melting anything inside. The other suits saw their comrade fall and turned to face this new enemy, and fired their burst cannons, ripping fire into the wall. Everyone hit the ground, but for some were not so quick and were caught by the cannons fire. Ahi ordered a few grenades to be thrown over. Explosions and the Plaser jumped up again and fired a plasma shot into another suits head. The rest of Aplha concentrated fire on the firewarriors, taking them down in groups. Soon Beta and Charlie joined up with them and Kapena had come here too. He ordered all 3 platoon to fix bayonets and charge. Commisar Ikaika came up and gave a mighty battle speech, “Men of Kekoa, Women of Kekoa, If today is the day were are meant to die, then so be it, but let not us be remembered as cowards, or those that would go without a fight, let us be remembered as ones whoe took the fight to the enemy. Blessed be this ground, if it is to receive our blood. For Kekoa! CHARGE!”
Everyone jumped from the wall and charged the firwarriors, a few threw grenade as they ran, making the tau flinch for the vital second. Slash, Stab, splatter. The sound of metal on metal could be heard and the scattered noise of lasgun/pulserifle fire was heard. Captain Kapena and Commisar Ikaika both had pulled out their power weapons. They were slicing throught Tau left and right, cutting through the armour as if it was not there at all. Ikaika fired hisbolt pistol at a Tau next to him, blowing a huge hole in its helmet, and then slashed the next. Kapena was hit in his shoulder but came around with a las-pistol shot to the face of the Tau that had injured him. Soon the Tau were beginning to fall back, and soon broke into a full rout. Then, the skimmers came forth. Tearing in what was a short victory for the Kekoans. They ran for cover, Ahi got on the vox and called for the gunships to focus in on these skimmers. The Valks hovered over the Tau and fired missle and Heavy Bolters into the oncoming Tau forces. Soon the Valk guns ran dry and they had to leave. There was no way to take out these skimmers. Then out of nowhere came the Kasrkins. Thye opened fire with their meltaguns and plasma fire. Burning holes right in the engines of the Devilfishes and Hammerheads. A few of them charged forward and threw melta bombs and they stuck on one of the Tau vehicles. A large and grand explosion nocked over some of the troopers and stunned a few others. Soon Alpha and Beta both had their plasma gunners open fire upon the Tau vehicles, soon they were all reduced to a burning hulk.
The battle was over with a few shot of lasguns being heard as the last of the Tau were hunted down. The Valks came back with staf of the Medicae, the Kekoans had suffered lightly but the Outpost crew were hit hard. Kapena took a seat next to one of the doctors and had his shoulder patched up. Ikaika came over and handed him a data-slate of the casualty report. “It seems that Delta has taken on casualties and Epsilon is almost gone. Reform both into Delta and make sure that the intermignling goes well.” Kapena sighed and looked up at his friend “You know what I fear, Ikaika, I fear that this won’t be the last time we will be here, for a long time. I just hope that the training will keep my men alive. May the Emperor bless us all…”

I liked this a lot. You did well portraying the rush and ruble of battle, contrasting it with the grim waiting period that procedes it.
However I thik this peice could be improved by going back through with a thesorus so some words dont get over used, and by adding a bit more discription, in terms of textures and scents. A few examples. Were the battlefeilds litterd with roting bodys produceing sickening stench? Were the walls brick or stone, rough or smothe? How did the explosion feal to the main charictor, was he thrown from his feet or was it just a gust of wind carying the scent of burning plastic?
As I said earlier I like this and if you answer some of these qouestions or make other tweeks I think you could make this a absolute top notch story.

Yeah I could have gone into more detailing about the battle and what the outpost was like. And a theasaurus would help. I'll be sure to use this advice on the next time, Thank You!
Um the Imperial Navy would never give command of ships to an Imperial Guard regiment. The Adeptus Terra would have them killed because there are strict rules saying Guard regiments are NEVER allowed ships under any circumstances.
They did not get naval ships they just got airplanes, or VTOL's. Ever heard of the Phantine regmint, they got command of their own thunderbolts and lightnings, and marauders.
well than that would be a GW catch 22
