How the heck would that work? ok, in game terms, you roll to hit. then roll to wound, the shot will bounce off the armor, then make an armor save. say the marine was wounded and needs to make a armor save. if the shot already went through the armor for a wound, why is there a armor save to see if the shot bounces off the armor, again?
You roll to hit.. It hits you... You roll to wound.. it wounds you... 1 wound creatures it kills them. If it doesn't wound then it's considered to be something similar to a flesh wound. Something that doesn't kill. I guess Armour saves should logically be the first roll, shouldn't it... Or even the Second Roll, after the Hit Roll... but that's just the way it works bleh..
I think the mentality is something like "It wounds you! But at the last minute your armour saves the day!"

Yeah, it actually would make more sense to roll to hit, then try to armor save, and THEN roll to wound. However, I don't see why bitching about it helps anyone.
this is the way I see it.
If you hit, but dont wound = armor nick. a lascannon just scorches the armor, shot is deflected by the armor, leaving next to no trace something even hit you. or a projectile or other shot pierces the armor, but just hits armor..like the shoulderpad..passing right through, never touching the marine himself.
if you hit and wound, and makes an armor save. armor is damage, melted in a place, or the attack pierces the armor, and hits the marine inside, but his enhanced body just shrugs off the wound, the brunt of the attack absorbed by the armor, so it isnt as devastating. (see the cover of space wolf codex, and space marine codex. you will see examples of armor missing from power suits, and on the SW codex, the armor save was made due to the helmet)
if you hit and wound, and no armor save is made.....well...taking into account the marines size, strength and stamina...itl be a mess...
