"Some fall from grace and become consumed by their dark passions, while others manage to exorcise their wanderlust and eventually return to the craftworld." (Partial quote from the GW store talking about the rangers.)
Ok, so what are these dark passions?
Is it ice cream?
I want one of these dark passion engulfed rangers!!!
I would assume something akin to their old "pleasure cults," the ones that eventually lead to the Fall and the birth of She Who Thirsts...
And, a little off topic, but I'm going to go ahead and boot this over to the Fluff forum, as it's more of a fluff topic, methinks.
Nemesis is right. The old Eldar way of life was excessively hedonistic, so much so that it led to the birth of Slaanesh the prince of pleasure. In order to curb their lustful ways, the Eldar of the Craftworlds started to devote their entire lives in the pursuit of a goal. For example, the Aspect shrines were created so that those Eldar who wished to join them could devote their lives to perfecting that form of combat and so avoid slipping back into their passionate ways.
Those Eldar who become rangers have decided against a life of strict devotion to an aspect/other hedonism-avoiding occupation. They instead find the call of their pleasure-seeking side too strong, and leave the Craftworld in order to explore it. Whilst away from the Craftworld, they must confront their desires, and hopefully work through them so that one day they may return to their Craftworld.
They may succumb to their dark passions however. These can take many forms including riches, gluttony or anything you can imagine a pleasure cult being centred on. As well as this, it could be that they crave slaughter and causing pain, in which case they will most likely end up amongst the ranks of the Dark Eldar.
Hope this helps.
as said above. live on the craftworld is strickt and does not tolerate certain "lust feelings" such as riches and more intimite things...
if the person becomes a ranger he/she is free to feel and express these "dark passions":
the things and feelings that eventually led to the Fall.
some are strong enough to come to their senses and excersize their feelings and so return to their craftworld, others fall deeper and deeper to these "passions" and will eventually be devouerd by She Who Thirsts (AKA: Slaneesh)
hope it helps
"Ask not the Eldar a question, for they will give you three answers; all of which are true and terrifying to know"
Darn, no ice cream!
Thanks for the help guys but I think you all opened a can of worms. I've been thinking up new ideas for the new codex. Maybe a Slaaneesh Cult eldar army? Oooh the possibilities.
Also, great job being a mod Nemesis. You make the fruit of my loins plentiful. :w00t:
When they say 'consumed by She Who Thirsts', they mean consumed.Originally Posted by [Black] Katalyst
