Why, even with the doctrines, different IG armies have different profiles?
Some guardsmen are better then others!
Quite frankly, yes..
Think of it in world war 2 terms.. Would untrained Red Guard conscripts be as effective individually as elite Waffen SS or Fallschirmjager troops?
It's all about training.. your average guardsman gets a few weeks. Stormtroopers have been training since early childhood (so a minimum of about 10 years.)
Some armies get different types of training too.. Cadians are given a lot of formal military training throughout their lives, so they're good shots and good soldiers. Catachans have to survive on one of the most hellish planets in the Imperium, so they have their own skills, like gutting things which big knives.

I mean in the White Dwarf, they saw Vostroyan training is more like Space Marine then IG. They should be a lot better then other guardsmen in sme respects (like T and WS). This is just one of the many examples.
Don't turn this into a "we need better stats" sort of topic, mmkay? Vostroyans would get higher WS if they take the Hardened Fighters doctrine - they would not have an increased T, though. Space Marines are super-human - why would a puny little human have the same Toughness as them?Originally Posted by Lord Marshall Zarof
Just because they receive similar training doesn't mean they go through the exact same processes - Space Marines go through a whole lot more than your typical Guardsmen.
The increased toughness point would be the equivilant of you being able to take a shotgun blast to the chest, lose and arm, or have about a dozen deadly knife wounds on you before you even started to slow down in combat. Im sorry, but no amount of training will allow a human to have limbs removed and still fight on.
I play my 40k with friendly fire.
Finally fixed the link!
they also only GET 4 hours of sleep each day, and sometimes go days without sleep, sure a guardsmen could pull an all nighter, but he would be groggy and wouldnt be very combat effective, so there is a huge differenceOriginally Posted by Lost Nemesis
SMs also have many implants that enable them to use their armour to do things such as automaticly aim( maybe not that, but things like it) without actually doing it
Actually, SM's can go without sleep indefinetly. It's just better for their psychological wellbeing if they get some each day.
Take care what you say now. They can survive long periods without sleep. Fluffwise: they have a Catalepsean Node implant in their brains. It allows them to rest one part of the brain while the other is active. In real life, it would not work. But hey, this is the grim darkness of the 41st milennium.
I'll go out on a wild goose chase here if you don't mind.
dude if you look in the specialty stuff your talking about, you'd see that these armies cannot use doctrine points. this is becuase they have used them all. you can get widely varying army profiles through using doctrines for your guard army in the codex. Its these doctrines that give you the varying stats.
In the night,
armed with lasguns,
and the light of the emporer,
they stood tall,
in the twilight,
the galaxy burns,
a cunning tribute,
to the god of man,
all hail the Emperer!
