Im thinking of starting a pre heresy sons of horus/ luna wolves army, and was wandering what unit types or traits i should use to represent a pre heresy legion.
I would like a mostly infantry army, to give it a kind of legion feel to it, with lots of tactical maries, maybe a few dreads, and some old style land speeders.
From what i know the following units would be available in M30 or there abouts.
Tactical Marines, mostly all bolters, very little heavy weapons
Devvies, no plasma cannons
assault marines, old style jump packs
dreads, once again old style (maybe use the FW venerable dread)
Predator destructor (annihilators werent invented)
Land raider (no crusader)
Land speeder (no typoon, or tempest)
bikes??? (jetbikes were available back then, dot know about normal ones)
no attack bikes
no assault termies???
unsure about normal termies,
unsure about scouts,
unsure about librarians, i know that psycik powers were frowned upon back then thou.
Also which trait would be the best to represent a legion?
i was thinking trust your battle brothers, flesh over steel, or aspire to glory?
Any comments would be appreciated,
No offense meant there, but you are seriously limiting yourself.
I respect the fact that army theme is every bit as important as winning.
Wrong plasma weaponswere in wide adundance so you can take them.Devvies, no plasma cannonsI prefer the new raptor ones myselfassault marines, old style jump packsThe forgeworld dread is MK 4 or 5 (can't remember) if you want to be true to the tim period look up the horus heresy artwork books/cardgame to see what mark 1's look like and convert one yourself.dreads, once again old style (maybe use the FW venerable dread)Termies were used, but in limited quantities.unsure about normal termies,Scouts were available, but they were not used in the main battle line.unsure about scouts,Chaplains and librarians were present but once again did not take to the field as often as they do now.unsure about librarians, i know that psycik powers were frowned upon back then thou.
For the rules I was going to use the CSM codex, as it portrays the legions better.

Those in the fluff form might be able to help you.
no whirlwind man
But all preditors are fine
I mean Chaos guyz have them right?
that means there at least as old as the heresy
In the night,
armed with lasguns,
and the light of the emporer,
they stood tall,
in the twilight,
the galaxy burns,
a cunning tribute,
to the god of man,
all hail the Emperer!
cheers for the comments guys, i already have very competitive armies of IG and orks, so this time round i was gonna go for more of a good looking and well converted army, which is also challenging to use, as oppose to a super powerful one.
About the dreads, the mk1 dreads looked terrible, they were like a large wheel with a daft face and legs, you can see them on www.solegends.com, available in early nineties.
Conversion is also a gd idea thou.
Predator destructors were available back then, but it was the Space Wolves who made the 1st annihilator, and it was after the heresy, so i think the chaos dudes must just have copied them.
The chaos codex is a good idea thou, then i will be able to get 20 men to a squad, giving it more of a legion feel to it, however i wont be able to get landspeeders, or scouts.
Cheers for the comments again
any ideas for traits?
