The 10th Legion in the 41 Millennium

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but after watching some history shows on the Roman Empire I was driven to create a Roman Legion in the 41st Millennium. I want it to be as if the Roman Empire never died but flurished across the stars, my trouble is I don't know which race to represent such a Legion.

I thought Space Marines, but they already have Ultramarines

I thought Imperial Guard, and they do have alot of eagle symbols and such which would make iconography easier.

Then for some odd reason I thought Tau, probably because of the way I like their army is structured, also I don't have a Tau army.

Color Scheme would include; Red, Black, Gold

I hope people are having fun.

go with guard they are really structured similar to the romans when you think about plus you could take doctines like carapace armour, close order, and hardened fighters.

    I would say go IG.

The Imperial Guardsmans most common enemy includes the Orks, the perfect uncultured Barbarians form the eastern steppes.

Close order drill actualy gives IG a bonus which looks quite Romanesque.

    go Guard!

the icons are similair so modeling is easy.
plus the doctrines give you plenty of chance to create a "roman" touch

close order drill: the roman formations

iron dicipline: to reflect to supreme diciplice which rules to roman army

hardend fighters & sharp shooters: the experience of the roman legions and strict drilling of it's soldiers, makes them hardier in CC

    hope it helps

having veterans, you could make close comba squads, like centurions. also warrior weapons would be good to represent this. What do you think the moels would look like? just Cadians? or like romanesque troops?

I was thinking about using Cadian models, but getting a hold of shields for each one of my infantrymen so I can make them look like real rank and file soldiers, even if the shields are a bit smaller.

I figure they would have upgraded to a more managable shield in the time since the ancient battles. Alright, so It's be guard.
I hope people are having fun.
