Im not really an expert, but I dont think they can just "take off" their armour... its probably a complicated prosess, that really isnt worth the time or effort. (plus, they probably would never do it on a battlefield.)
I play my 40k with friendly fire.
Finally fixed the link!
They can, and do, take off their armour outside of battle.
They can't take off the black carapace. Which is an exoskeletal-like layer on top of their skin that interfaces with the power armour.
But yes they do take their power armour off. Usually when they're outside of a campaign they'll just be wearing robes. Though I imagine they put the armour back on for training.
"You challenge me knowing that I am Xiahou Dun!?"
And to hit that last question, they look just like humans when out of the armor. Granted, they're 2 meters tall and built like brick walls, but they don't have any weird mutations and the like if that's what you meant.
Along those same notions, what about Terminator armour?
Can that be removed? Is it just power armour with Acctuators and Servos for balance, and just extra armour plating here and there?
Indeed. All Marine-armour is reomvable (except Dreadnought-armour, but that's kind of permament...).
Abbadon is described several times in the HH-novels to be out of his Termie-armour.
It's a process not dissimilar to removing medieval plate armour. It takes three serfs and several minutes to get it all off.
Apart from the unnatural bulging muscles, shrunken genitalia and comparitively small skulls, Space Marines are human underneath it. They wear the armour often, because it's comfortable (relatively) and it takes care of all their needs (including toiletry) so wearing it for as long as week is entirely normal. There's the subdermal Black Carapace, which has the aforementioned Matrix plug gadgets, and probably service studs and bionics and that junk. But yes, they can take it off, and yes, they are normal beneath it. I thought they were robots for a long time. You're better off than me.
