Hey, this issue came up when I was writing my fluff for my army, and also recently regarding the before-unknown Red Templars, who a Warseer member said were comprised of Black Templars (Imperial Fists) and Blood Angels geneseed, to weed out the bloodthirstiness (it worked). But I've seen other people scratch their heads on this issue. Can one, when founding a Chapter, take geneseed from more than one Primarch? Why or why not?
If i remember correctly, it can be done but it could easily lead to mutation and other such nasty things. As for it removing Blood Rage , i would doubt it. Also the Red Templars have no existing fluff on them at the moment so for all we know you could make them Raven Guard foundings.
Found this on another site.Mixed/combined geneseed is a bad idea, those few occasions where manipulation of the geneseed has occured have resulted in bad thing happening to the Chapter in question (look at the Relictors or Lamenters, for example). Gene seed is the holiest of holies, it is part of the Primarch himself which is implanted into a Marine and makes him truly superhuman. To dilute or manipulate holiest remnants of the Primarch is surely the highest heresy possible.
The only real occasion you can get away with combined geneseed is by creating a Cursed (21st) or Dark (13th) Founding chapter, and even then, I’d recommend against it.
As said.. they tried to do it in the cursed founding, they may have succeeded.. but there are nearly always unpleasant side effects. Not just 'ooh.. my eyes have suddenly become mismatched' but 'hmm.. where did that claw come from?'
The Lamenters, one of the cursed founding chapters, are rumoured to have blood angels geneseed without the black rage. However, they suffer from a terrible curse which makes them all radiate an aura of psychic doom and means they're fantastically unlucky and have a habit for making really poor choices.
The chapter is massively depleted and will probably soon be extinct.
