What happened to the webway on the crone worlds and on Altansar. Did they fuse with the eye into non existence, or would it still be possible to navigate it? thanks in advance!
Space Marines are the gateway drug
If everyone makes fun of West Virginia, who does West Virginia make fun of?
I assume you mean when Altansar was within the eye of terror, classically the eldar seal sections of the webway that open into the realm of chaos to prevent chaos entering the webway and gaining access to all eldar civilisation without warning
Everything you have been told is a lie!
Altansars webway gates would have been sealed as they knew they were getting sucked in centuries before it happened.
As for webway inside the eye of terror yes these things happen and thats why large portions of the webway are infested with daemons and impossible to traverse.
Check out my Codex: Farmyard Animals here!
If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
There are dozens, possibly hundreds of access points to the webway inside the eye. Remember that was the heart of the eldar kingdom. However most are sealed/destroyed/damaged. And not just the enterances/exits. Several parts of the webway are/were open to the influence of chaos, hence why whole sections of it have been closed off for fear of them spreading. Can they be re-opened and navigated by a powerful enough chaos force? Of course. How do you think Ahirman did it?
All of the above, but also the Eldar are the dominant force in the webway, there is not a constantant battle between the Eldar and the forces of Chaos, but rather skermishes which the eldar win or lose, end up sealing something.
Everything you have been told is a lie!
It should be noted however that more and more of the webway is becoming impossible to navigate, as more and more of it is sealed off due to these "skirmishes". But also remember that the webway spans the whole galaxy, it is still plenty large.
Yes, Ahriman managed to get in.. But he's one of the most powerful sorcerors around, and has had millenia to study it (and he still had to kidnap and interrogate an inquisitor to get more info on the subject.) It was more an infiltration than an all out invasion.
There was also Haran, where chaos forces tried to gain access to the webway and failed.
But other than that, I've never read anything about chaos forces using the webway. It does say that some parts of the webway are invested by daemons, or lead directly into the warp itself, but actually chaos minions using the webway.. Nah..
Incidentally.. There is one storyline in inquisitor involving an Eldar forward outpost on one of the crone worlds, accessed through one of the now lost webway gates.
It's also implied that webway gates, once sealed, can only be opened on one side. There was a short story in the old codex in which a farseer seals a webway gate against the dark eldar (who obviously know how the webway works and how to open and close gates.) So if passages have been sealed off, it seems unlikely that the forces of chaos could open them without some kind of help from the other side.

When I say chaos, I don't mean chaos space marines or traitors. I mean daemons, chaos entities. You know, the very stuff of chaos. I never said they "use" the webway, just that they get in every now and then. Whether by accident, like Inquisitor Draco accidentally opening a previously sealed opening onto an old eldar world (now a daemon world), or pieces of it get damaged/fall into disrepair, and daemons wiggle their way in. Only powerful sorcerors like Ahirman and a few others could literally navigate, and make use of the webway.
Ahriman wasn't the first of the Thousand Sons to find an entrance to the Webway, though. As I recall, Mordant Hex also found a portal that he broke open and used to gain access to it. Apart from sealing, the main defense of the Webway against invaders is the Harlequins, who patrol/wander it, and the fact that most entrances are too small to fit tanks and heavy equipment.
