Has anybody done any Tau fluff before?
I know the Tau don't have any actual chapters but they do have the septs, maybe invent a new sept?
Yes, but they are overall divisions of the population (builders, negotiators, military, etc)
Each world controlled by the Tau has it's own sept, and the population of each world is made up of different portions of each caste, including a military.
Welcomme to the forum!
I have done some for a sept I'm planning to build an army for in the future. I'm not to happy with it actually so I'm planning to rewrite it anyways.
A better tip would be to do a search on this board, there's a couple of otehrs who have done some tau-fluff.
There's plenty of Tau fluff to be found if you look for it - many players invent their own septs, colonies, or factions for the tabletop, and there's also some official fluff to be found on the Tau in form of the Black Library novel 'Fire Warrior' by Simon Spurrier - although admittedly this novel is not universally loved by all; I personally like it, but others do not always agree with me. There's also the Ciaphas Cain novel 'For the Emperor' by Sandy Mitchell featuring the Tau, if you want them from a more Imperial point of view.
Also, worth keeping in mind when creating fluff for a new sept is the Expansion Spheres representing new areas of space around the T'au homeworld; the closer to T'au, the more civilised a colony tends to be, whereas the Third Sphere Colonies are considered to be frontier worlds on the edge of the unknown. A sept is also influenced by the presence of other races in or near the sept, the environment of the main planet, and the mentality of the sept's leaders. This all has influence on how the various castes work together and how the sept's Fire Caste maintain and deploy its units, which is what you'll be demonstrating on the tabletop.
If you have problems with creating your fluff, want some tips or good advice, or check if your story conforms properly to the fictional universe of 40k, then you're always welcome to post it here in the Army Fluff section of the forum and get other members' opinion on it. We're a group of fluff-nuts around here who just love to read and work with fluff.

If you want an example of homemade tau fluff ask Lucy. She invented her own.
That is the perfect example of a VERY hard job. Sometimes I hate it when people ask me for help with fluff. >.<'
Look around the tau forum a bit and you might find her. If you want to see some of her fluff just send her a PM and ask to see it (give her a link to this thread too).
her exact name is Lucy.
