Many of you will have seen my brainstorming of an army on the IG forum, so here is a blurb of the history of my chosen Regiment. The 62nd Guard Army of Valhalla was originally a territorial formation, being maned by the able-bodied men of the surrounding districts who where obligated to serve for one month a year. When an Ork army threatened their district the 4561 Territorial Army was called into service to reinforce the full-time units already deployed to the area. Here they distinguished themselves fighting side by side with there full-time brothers matching them kill for kill. After the battle it was decided that this territorial force be reformed as a full time outfit and the 62nd Army of Valhalla was born. Again and again the 62nd repelled armies of Orks and the distinctions of the force grew. The 62nd was deployed off world where they fought side by with a local force on Solarii Prime and Daemonhunters. The 62nd Army of Valhalla fought valiantly against the Chaos hordes and gained the Daemonhunters respect, a force of Grey Knights is permanently available to commanders of the 62nd Army of Valhalla. The 62nd Army of Valhalla was recognised for the heroism in the face of Chaos, and what was left of the army was given land on Solarii Prime. The 62nd was also given the honour of being named a Guards Army. The men of the 62nd became part of Solarii Prime culture and those that did not bring families from Valhalla have now married into a Solariian household. It has now been 50 years since the last Chaos horde touched the planet and the society is in a boom stage and the army is being transformed into a force of tomorrow. The 62nd Guards Army is currently commanded by Kadimir Chinova
About Solarii Prime
Solarii Prime is a planet in a system that is coming into a boom time, surrounded by forge and agri worlds Solarii Prime is a Civilised Fortress world, its climate is very cool, with max temperatures of 15*C in the Summer and minimum of -20*C in the winter, during the summer there is a large amount of rain that flows from the mountain ranges cutting large canyons in the area into several of large oceans that seperate the continents, during the winter these oceans will 'loose' half there size due to ice forming.
The 62nd Guards Army of Valhalla is an army that holds onto it's traditional Valhallan roots yet is also part of the Solarrian culture. Although recruitment is restricted to people of Valhallan blood many are only related to Valhallans through one parent or even one grandparent. The 62nd is currently being updated with the most modern technology during a time of apparent quite in this part of the galaxy.....
It looks good, but the only problem I have is with the detatchment of grey knights permanently available to the regiment. First off, the grey knights never would be seconded to imperial guard because they are higher up the food chain than mere guardsmen. Second of all, most Inquisitors would either a) kill all the guardsmen in order to ensure that none were tainted or b) wipe their memories. So that's my two cents. On another note, you mispelled quiet at the end of the post. ;p

The one bit i didnt run through spell check (
Thanks for the advice.
It's nicely done, but as said the Grey Knights bit is off. Also, you might want to clear up the terminology of the "Territorial Army"; in 40K they're Planetary Defence Forces (PDFs), organised in a similar way to the main Guard forces. In a similar vein, having orks almost wipe out Valhalla does seem to be taking a bit too much liberty with the fluff history of a world that has a distinguished history in the Imperium, unless you want to tie it in with an event on Valhalla that's mentioned in the fluff.
The way you introduce them is a bit awkward, going from PDF to offworld regiments, but that could just be Valhallan practice. The standard Guard method is conscription from planetary militias rather than PDFs. But it does add a nice individual twist to Valhalla that people aren't likely to gripe at if they do things differently.
As much as it's a nice idea to have the Valhallans bringing their families with them, this doesn't happen with the Guard; the closest thing you'll get to it is them being offered a "trophy world" that they won particular distinction in taking. Getting their original families shipped over isn't likely either, as space travel is pricey and restricted to those that need it and stowaways. They would have to marry local women. But the idea of only those of Valhallan descent being allowed into the army is a brilliant one, I can imagine the rich families keeping huge genealogies to secure their family's place among the military ones, along with class privileges and so on and so forth.
A very nice idea. Keep running with it!
Just change the Grey Knights to a renowned Chapter of the Astartes- a Ultramarine honour guard...or a version of the Space Wolf Wolfblades. Then you get cool space marines, a tradition of honour that will last forever and still fit within the lore.
Ultramarines seconded to the Daemonhunters see the valour in the men and swear to stand by them forever-easy, it fits and it doesnt leave niggling questions about the grey boys from Titan.
Thanks guys for the advice,
I might ditch the Grey Knights from the story as the way I'm looking at structuring my army dosnt need them as much as I thought when i started this.
Changing it from terriotorial to PDF and downgrading the conflict with the orks isnt hard and wouldnt degrade the regiment that much. Dito with the family's being shipped over.
i like the part about the families... it adds a lot of character to the backgroundfluff, the families come to the strange planet, and immediatly start acting as nobles.
You could also add that all conscripts, low ranking and NCO's in your army are local Solariian' whilst all the specialists and and officers are valhallen'
The Solarrians with no Valhallan blood wouldn't even be allowed in the army, that's how elitist they are!
hahahaha: conscripts! come on! you know you want to have cheap expendable slave-troops!
Depends... it's very characterful for the military to be completely exclusive.
And I would be wary of shipping them over. Transporting civilians back and forth generally isn't done. In the words of Fra Safrane, "Better it is not to let common man travel through the stars. Better still, let him not know such a thing is feasible." That's more or less the view of most of the Imperium, and why rogue traders exist.
