I recently read the codex of the old space marine. About Marneus Calgar, his latest bettle honor is happen at 995, M41 with the defence of Ichar IV.
According to this, the timeline of 40k universe are filled with battle histroies up to the very end of the year M41, did years of M42 arrived yet? The idea of Warhammer 41k just makes me laugh some how.
To be honest, they've kind of backed themselves into a corner as regards the metaplot..
I'm willing to bet there will never be a Warhammer 41k. Instead, I'd guess they'll just hover around this time period, occasionally inserting new bits and pieces, and sometimes jumping backwards a bit.. Maybe we'll start getting historical campaigns set around events like the Horus heresy.. That could be kind of cool.
Regardles.. I don't think the 42nd millenium is going to arrive for a while.
From what I understand, the galaxy is supposed to be like...destroyed in 41k. I mean, Chaos got the Blackstone Fortress, Eldrad died, Cadia was perhaps irreperably destroyed, the Tyranid Hive Fleets are creating and multiplying exponentially, the Necrons are starting to wake up, the Orks seem to be getting restless...
Warhammer 41k would be like Gehenna for VtM. I mean, from a certain perspective, it might be nice to start over and make the fluff a little more concise and make more sense. On the other hand, there's a wealth of history already that would go down the tube...
"Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away." Sephiroth, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Ugh. That kind of thing works, but it usually completely alienates the old fanbase, and reeks of "retcon!" DC has done it twice with the Crisis on Infinite Earths setting - they've revamped Superman and revised his origins four times, three in the last twenty years - and generally seems a cheap cop-out maneouvre once it hits you that everything you write has been so poorly thought through and so contradictory that it just doesn't work.
Besides, such a revamp would change significantly more than just the fluff. With WoD, they literally revised the entire origin story of vampires and werewolves, invented totally new antagonists and completely changed the game system - it would be comparable, then, to think of 40k where there is no Emperor, where Space Marines are regular humans in armour, and where Tyranids are given sentience and individuality and renamed "Ymgarlites", and now they all look like Genestealers.
So, yeah. I'd rather they stay in metastasis for ten years than radically revise the setting.

Mr_Wayne: "Some people believe that the World Eaters do not field any ranged weaponry. Those people often die at a distance."
It seems that after some research, The 13th Black cursade happens at year 999, M41.
Since the 13th Black cursade already ended, I assume we are already in M42, and we are offically in Warhammer 41k universe.... Just curious, when is the year for the recent campain The fall of Medusa V?
