Default Why did Horus ACTUALY fall?

*before reading there might be some spoilers from the Horus Heresy books

Ok, so after reading the horus heresy books I cant for the life of me still decide on why did Horus actualy fall. I mean so yes the chaos gods showed him the future where he has forgoten, but did he actualy fall for this reason or was it more along the lines of the resentment that had been building up on him that:
A. Fist the emperor just decided to take a wonderfull vaction in the middle of galactic conquest.
B. That the before mentioned emperor started to give more power to burocrats.
C. He thought that he himself would have been a better emperor.
D. All of the above.

But none the less any of those dont actualy lead to chaos, so maybe it was from interacting with the ruinous powers? Or maybe the search for power? Because in the books he just allies with them. Ok, but sorry if I ally with the french it wont mean I'll turn french and eat crossaints.(ok so the french doughnut is good). But I diverge, as I understood it he was just using them as alllies, like you would ally with say the eldar if he thought they would have helped or the orks if they where capable of doing a coordinated assault. So at what point did it become less a "I want the emperor dead, so do you lets help each other" and more a "Chaos is strong, my life for chaos"?

But I consider the 2 events separatly, I dont think his rebellion was caused by him falling to chaos, as a direct consecuence of his rebellion he came in contact with Chaos and therefore fell, but by this time he had already reveled or not?

Sorry if this was posted elseware and I didnt see it, so if you could post a link its all cool, if not feel free to answare

False Gods was really a poorly written book that handled Horus' fall from grace horribly. Instead of a gradual fall from grace due to his eroding confidence in the Emperor, he suddenly decides to accept the word of a proven traitor and liar over that of his brother in a dream.

Horus' fall was supposed to be a gradual affair, with him losing confidence in the leadership of the Emperor, who had suddenly abandoned the war to persue something he was not willing to indulge to his "favorite" son, Horus. Add in Horus' disagreements with what the Empire was becoming, and you have the seeds to turn Horus from the faithful Warmaster of the Empire to the heretic he would become.

That is my take on it anyways.

They left out the warrior lodges!!!??? What kind of a blathering fool is Abnett?????

Horus turns to Chaos partly through pride, partly through frustration at the Emperor's distance from the Crusade, and partly because he was inducted, while recovering from illness on (Davin IV???), into a Chaos-worshipping warrior cult. As to whether or not the illness was Chaos-borne in the first place is up for debate. But it was the lodges that introduced Chaos practices into the Sons of Horus.

All I have to say is that I hate Abbadon for what he said about Horus. If anything the Chaos Legions should try to bring Horus back - and kick the Imperium's big sweaty butt once and for all.

I have to say, there are some things in the Horus Heresy books that don't really make sense/fit into official fluff. So we'll see what happens I guess.

Lorgar did it. He was worshipping Chaos before it was cool; he arranged for Horus to fall sick and essentially perpetrated the whole heresy.

Dont read the books, but pre the books, when Space marine (epic in its first incarnation) first came out, this was it:

Horus was wounded and whilst he was weak and recovering he was inducted into a warrior lodge that unbeknown to him, involved chaos worhip

D. All of the above.
I would have to say, E. None of the above.

Why? Well, without even looking at the original fluff that Xerxes and Cheredanine can pull out, he didn't think himself a better emperor, he wasn't hellbent mad about humans getting power, and he didn't hate the emperor for leaving.

In the dreamstate he was in, Horus finally had to confront the fact that he was now utterly alone. The emperor had given him a position that rivaled his own father and there was no one he could go to for help because he was the only one. From there he has dobts of himself, which the chaos gods pick at in the dreamstate.

Next there were the visions of the past and future they showed him; that the emperor allowed for the primarchs to be lost to him and that Horus would be forgotten and betrayed.

The books explain it fairly well, at least I always thought they did. He was confused and saw his greatest fear; he did not know who to trust and ultimately chose the wrong guide to help him, after all the Emperor was not with him in his greatest time of need.

Personally, I think the books are great, they shed a lot of light on things though I daresay they take some liberties with fluff, but that's how the universe evolves right? Horus had that feeling we've all felt, the worst one of being truly and utterly alone in a life full of struggles that won't ever end. That's an enormous burden.

And in the warp,something smiled.

God I do love that line especially after his huge rant..

"Enough." His voice was softer, more dangerious. "I am Horus, General and Warmaster. The first soldier of the Imperium, subordinate only to the Emperor himself. Shall it be said that Horus ran away from a hutful of savages?"

That whole story is one of my all time fav's, its just about as good as the origional Eisenstein story. 1st edition fluff rules =o]
