At least it's actually a secret.

"The Dark Angels have always been one of the most loyal chapters to the Imperium's cause. But beneath their fanaticism lies an ancient and dark secret, a great shame that they cannot ever bring to light. They guard this secret with their lives, and only the highest members of the Dark Angels hierarchy know the tale in full."

"That secret is that half the legion turned to Chaos and their homeworld had to be blown up."

Oooooooo.

:/ It's not exactly the Bourne Identity.

Secrets are a place the DIY chapters and 'lesser' chapters shine with.

Problem of course is that few people care.

Chapters of unknown or questionable parentage make for a lot of good stuff though.

My own chapter, the Reconcilers claims to be descended from Rogal Dorn for example, but their sus-an membranes work, and they seem to have functional betcher's glands, and no really apparent mutations (aside from all being over-zealous to the point of near gleeful suicide in the course of duty.)

They don't have any chapter iconography however. Their chapter history is spotty and sporadic. The chapter they supposedly renamed themselves from is listed as deceased prior to even their earliest date of claimed inception.

The Blood Ravens have a similar aura of 'WTF' floating around their history. Especially since no primarch I can think of really meshes well with their general ethics. Their secrecy and psyker focus seems to put them apart from most of the loyalist 'grandpa' chapters.

They seem to have a combat style that changes drastically dependant on the circumstances. Word Bearer connection?

They have huge librarian corps. Thousand Son connection.

They denote a spectacular loyalty to the codex astartes? Ultramarine connection?

They're fleet based. Imperial Fist?

They might come from Magus, but its important to remember he wasn't the only psyker in the Emperor's brood. And they have no mystical trappings to their psykers.
