How do i get round being a Dark Angels successor Chapter but still use their robes and angelic imagery?? I'll definetely be dropping the winged sword icon.
Also, any ideas on what i should do with my chapters fluff to make them very, very devout??
I want to use the Raven Guard gene-seed, and make them a guerilla/special forces style force.
ALL opinions greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance, trub.
If I understand this question correctly then you want your chapter to have some angel iconography but not be a DA successor chapter. Very easy, give your chapter a name like "SOMETHING Angels." This gives you ample reason to use angel iconography.
You could, of course, take it one step further and attach significance to different types of angel symbols (e.g. angles armed with swords are battle honours, unarmed angles signify a particularly pious marine). For my chapter the Angels of Fury, I use lots of angelic symbols from the DA sprues and have attached significance to several different types of symbol in my chapter fluff as justification for using them on my models.
For devout fluff - you could make it that your marines never fight alongside any other Imperial armies that they deem to be insufficiently devout - like some other well known Imperial forces. For example, they may be unhappy about fighting alongside IG (selected regiments as opposed the the whole organisation) as they see them as being akin to the "unwashed masses." You could also write a few fluff stories of your marines valiently defending a place of worship.
As well as this, you could write fluff regarding their daily activities that make them appear more devout (extra prayer time for example). Make a big show of the religious side of a marines life in your army fluff by writing several battle chants and the like. You could also write a bit about chapter traditions; perhaps each scout has to memorise and repeat a sermon in front of his intend new company before he can become a fully fledged battle brother?
As for traits - just go for those you like and write them into the fluff. There are a few traits in the SM codex that would definatly fit a "devout" chapter, but that doesn't mean you cant write other traits into your fluff so that they appear more devout.
I suggest that you grab some paper and a pen and get writing a draft of the fluff with these things in mind. Once you have something you're happy with, post it up in the fluff forum and we'll give you some friendly help with it (if indeed it needs any). Good luck with the fluff buddy, I hope I helped.
May I suggest Dusk Angels? j/k I'm just being an idiot don't worry ^^
Seriously though - something angelic and celestial would be best in order to use the iconography. Like if you were to choose... Celestial Crusaders or... Seraphin Blades or something or other. That would work nicely without the use of the over-used '[Insert Fromage] Angels'
