Captain Garron Tremolt had been resting in his quarters when the alarm klaxons sounded. He bolted upright from his bunk and ran towards the command bridge as fast as his legs would carry him. Before he could make it there however, he was thrown of his feet as something impacted with the ship’s unprotected hull. He landed hard on the deck, tearing his left palm on a damaged handrail.
Tremolt pulled himself to his feet and jogged the rest of the way to the bridge. “Status report,” he barked at the nearest marine.
“Captain, Palmyra’s orbital guns are firing on us. We’ve lost engines eight through twelve. The Liturgy is gone and so are both of the Ultramarines’ strike cruisers.”
“Helms, get us out of here! I want us in high orbit now!”
“Sir!” the helmsman responded as he pushed the thrusters to their maximum output.
Rage boiled inside Tremolt’s belly as he looked out the glass windows on either side of the bridge. He watched as the orbital guns poured fire into the Justice until it became nothing more than ruined scraps of metal.
“Drain the energy from our weapons batteries and boost it to our engines!”
“Roger that,” the weapons master complied.
The Pride exploded in a cloud of flame as it too was consumed by the orbital gunfire. “Dammit!” Tremolt cursed as he slammed his fist into his command console, leaving an imprint of his hand.
The Unyielding Flame lurched again as the orbital guns traced fire across her bow, but within another five seconds the remaining Imperial vessel managed to make its way into high orbit.
“Damage report,” Tremolt said, his voice wracked with resignation.
“We’ve lost engines five through sixteen, weapons are offline but can be recharged within the next five minutes, void shields are destroyed, and the launch bays have been destroyed.”
“Okay, let’s fix what we can ASAP. I want –”
Tremolt’s voice trailed off as he looked through the window before him. Aligned in perfect formation was an enemy fleet, whose commander was attempting to reach the Unyielding Flame.
“Patch him through,” Tremolt said.
The face that filled the screen made Tremolt narrow his eyes and resist the urge to spit in disgust.
“Captain Tremolt, what a pleasant surprise.”
“Captain Imloth,” Tremolt hissed.
“I’d ask you to stand down,” Imloth continued, “But I know that would be a waste of breath.”
“Indeed,” Tremolt replied as he turned off the view screen, ending the transmission.
Tremolt’s world became one of fire and metal as the Dusk Phantom fleet opened fire, tearing the Unyielding Flame to pieces. For a few agonizing seconds, he felt his skin melt from his bones and his blood boil. He tried to scream, but his lungs turned to ash as the explosion claimed him.
Aboard the Interceptor, Captain Jason Imloth, second in command of the Dusk Phantoms, smiled as he reviewed the data analysis on his console. There was no sign of life in the debris field, but there was only one way to be sure.
“Scramble the recovery teams,” Imloth said. “Our Chapter Master will want to make use of the wreckage. Have the boarding teams check for survivors as well.”
The Dusk Phantoms had arrived; the price for harming the host of Lord Carcerus would be a heavy one indeed.

Tremolt got OWNED!
Seriously good work man. I've really enjoyed the story so far and it just keeps getting better and better. One question though, how many more chapters? I'm hoping theres still a lot more to come.
I'm sure Lyran has many more to come ^^ Keep going my friend, show those Loyalist Dogs what happens to those who blindly follow the word of the FALSE Emperor.
Lyran, these are amazing! All 16 chapters so far have been intriguing and extremely well written. As a budding Word Bearer player, I salute (rep) you!
Keep them coming!
