Would it be unfluffy to include Basilisk Artillery tanks in a jungle deathworld army?
I'm thinking about making a Vietnam type deathworld army and thought about including bassies as my "firebase".
The reasoning would be the deathworlders would clear an area ahead of time, bring in the tanks via Aircraft/driving/boat ect., so they could call in artillery strikes like they did in Vietnam.
would this be plausible or is it just a desperate attempt to add vehicles in a obvious non-vehicle army:hmm:
Eh. Blast markers make sense for battlefields with heavy cover, but I think the Vietnam artillery actions were more of a long-range thing - the platforms themselves weren't in the battle in any significant way. The 40k analogue of this would be an orbital bombardment.
Plus, in a jungle regiment, moving bassies would be nigh impossible. They're too fragile to drop in, so it would involve clearing significant portions of wood and marshland.

The problem I've always had with Bassies is that they really shouldn't be "on" the battlefield anyway, so having them with any army is a little silly. But to fit in with the game mechanics, we have them in a position where they can actually be shot at by the enemy.
That being said, Jungle fighters would call in artillery and therefore a bassie would be fine on the tabletop, IMO.
RecklessFable's Journey to Mediocrity (Painting an IG army)
I've been addicted to World of Tanks lately and neglecting my IG... But it is so... much... fun!
Basilisks are not really treated like heavy artillery, they're treated like mobile heavy mortars. I suppose that's neccesary, as off-map artillery could get annoying.
The problem is the mobility.. Basilisks are mounted on a chassis which can't move through heavy jungle. It's going to get bogged down in swamps, blocked by trees and otherwise screwed over by the terrain.
But hey, given them a rough terrain modificiation and use them. I'm sure noone will mind.
Remember Vietnam wasn't really jungle fighting. The jungle battles have just been overhyped. There were open-field and urban battles as well, in which tanks were more effective.
Ok, thank you for the replies!
I think I might include bassies later on after I get my main force assembled, maybe use them every now and then just for fun
Again, very grateful for the replies
