Doing a pre heresy imperial fist army and just thought , would they have the term crux things?
thats what I was thinking as the stone one was made by bits of the emperors throne wasnt it?
Bits of his armour actually; those pieces being what generate the powerfield around terminator armour to give them the invulnerable save.

The crux terminatus that gives terminator armor it's invulnerable save is made from pieces of the God-Emperor's armor, part of the reason why the armor is so rare. I imagine that there are other ways of doing it though since chaos terminators have the invulnerable saves. Perhaps pre-heresey marines had alternatives themselves but, as religion centered around the god-emperor spread, perhaps this method just became popular since it would concievably consecrate the armor.

I think it's more of a faith thing, as one of the defensive measures in the Terminator armor is a refractor feild, like the ones that guard officers wear. Chaos Termies have this.
dosnt the invunrable save take into account that the armour is infact dreadnought armour? And the save is there as the armour should be able to take anti tank rounds/energy weapons.
traitor suits also have the crux terminatus save.. it specifically mentions it for abaddon in his codex entry for this codex...

Like I said, it's probably just a talisman of faith, with the actual protection being done by the refractor feild.
And they're not Dread armor per say. It's just a term for them. Strictly speaking, all SM power armor is psyco-reactive in the way Dread armor is (just a question of degree), so the name tactical dread armor is referring to the sheer size of the suit.
I think the crux terminatus thing is supposed to be a bit of a play on the whole 'true cross' and relic hogging going on in the middle ages.
I believe some saint once commented on how there were enough pieces of the "true cross" kicking around for that someone could build a warship out of them.
Its probably roughly the same situation with the crux terminatus.
